Love for Ahl-uhl-bait [Prophet's lineage] is not specific to a particular group in Islam; all Muslims like the Ahl-uhl-bait of the Prophet (pbut); all Muslims are respectful towards the Prophet's Ahl-uhl-bait. There was a very small group in history, enemies of Ahl-uhl-bait, and their motives were possibly political motives, rather than real religious motives; but, the greater majority of Muslims, from the beginning to this day, are considered to be enthusiasts of Ahl-ul-bait. Well, this single sentence is a lesson for us: through our love for Ahl-ul-bait, Muslims can unite for a common cause; this can be a pivotal step towards the unification of Muslims. As the Prophet of Islam (PBUH) serves as a pivot for unity among Muslims, as the Quran and the Ka'bah are pivots of Muslim unity, the love for Ahl-uhl-bait can also be pivotal towards uniting Muslims and connecting their hearts.
And I would like to say to you, dear brothers, that today the Islamic world needs this unity and this sympathy, more than ever. Today, the body of the Muslim world is wounded: the enemies of Islam have been able to impair Muslims by creating wars and rifts among them, occupying them with one another, to keep their enemies on a safe margin. As a result, of the enemies’ plots in Western Asia, the usurper Zionist regime is secured, but Muslims are at war with each other! This is a reality that exists today; and, it is caused by the enemies of Islam: by the United States, by international Zionism, and by their allies and followers within the region. Unfortunately, we must admit that, within the Islamic Ummah and Islamic governments, there are people who do what the United States and Zionists want: they fund their projects, prepare the grounds for it and become hands behind their operations. What for? To injure the body of the Islamic Ummah. In such a situation, the unity of the Islamic Ummah is imperative; we must come together.
Love for the lineage of the Prophet is rooted in the Quran; it is rooted in the traditions [ahadith]: it is not a new practice. For instance, the hadith commonly verified and believed by various denominations of Islam is the Hadith of Al-Thaqalayn: "Verily, I am leaving behind two precious things (thaqalayn) among you: the Book of God and my kindred (`itrah), my household (Ahl-uhl-Bayt), for indeed, the two will never separate until they come back to me by the river (of al-Kawthar on the Day of Judgment)," teaches us to obey the Ahl-uhl-bait, because following Ahl-uhl-bait without loving them does not make sense; hence, love derives from this hadith, too. Furthermore, that the Quran says, "Indeed God desires to repel all impurity from you, O People of the Household, and purify you with a thorough purification," the purity and piety, that the Almighty God has willed to be present in the Ahl-uhl-bait, requires Muslims to hold love and admiration for the lineage of the Prophet (pbut). Therefore, this becomes the means of a unifying factor for Muslims.
