Imam Khamenei

Imam Khamenei's recommendation for those deprived of participating in Itikaf

Due to the Coronavirus pandemic and the recommendations issued by the National Committee on Combating Corona, the spiritual event of Itikaf (religious seclusion in the Mosque) will not be held throughout the country this year as well. Given the circumstances, the head of the Central Headquarters for Itikaf addressed a letter to the Leader of the Revolution asking for his recommendation for those who had the intention of participating in Itikaf but were deprived of this grace. In response to his letter, Imam Khamenei made a recommendation for all those who are fond of the spiritual event of Itikaf so that they can take advantage of the month of Rajab’s Ayam al-Bayd this year. The text of his recommendation, which is being published by KHAMENEI.IR, is as follows:

In His Name
This year too, many worshipers are deprived of the virtuous act of Itikaf (religious seclusion in the Mosque). Therefore, I recommend performing the Ja'far Tayyar Prayer* each of these three days.

Sayyid Ali Khamenei

* How to perform the Ja'far al-Tayyar Prayer

This prayer consists of two prayers of two Rakats (cycles) each, or a total of 4 Rakats. In each Rakat, Chapter Al-Fatihah (The Opening) and one other chapter of the Holy Qur’an should be recited.

In addition in each Rakat, the “Tasbihat al-Arba’a” should be recited 75 times in the way that is described in the following.  Thus, the cumulative number of times that the “Tasbihat al-Arba’a” should be recited in the four Rakats is 300 times.
Tasbihat al-Arba’a is as follows:
سُبْحَانَ اللهِ وَ الْحَمْدُ لِلهِ وَ لَا اِلٰهَ اِلَّا اللهُ وَ اللهُ اَكْبَر
Subhan Allah, wal-hamdu lillah, wa la ilaha illa Allah, wa Allah-u Akbar
(Glory be to Allah, and all praise is for Allah, and there is no god but Allah, and Allah is Great)
The number of times that the Tasbihat al-Arba’a should be recited in each part of each Rakat of the prayer is as follows:
(i) After reciting the chapters of the Qur’an… 15 times
(ii) In Ruku… 10 times
(iii) In standing after Ruku… 10 times
(iv) In the first Sajdah… 10 times
(v) While sitting after the first Sajdah… 10 times
(vi) In the second Sajdah… 10 times
(vii) While sitting after the second Sajdah … 10 times. (This should be recited in the second Rakat of the prayer as well, before reciting the Salams.)
This is 75 times in each of the four Rakats and 300 times in total.
The chapters of the Holy Qur’an that are recommended to be recited in each Rakat after reciting Chapter Fatihah are as follows:
In the 1st Rakat, Chapter Zilzal (no. 99).
In the 2nd Rakat, Chapter Adiyat (no. 100).
In the 3rd Rakat, Chapter Nasr (no. 110).
In the 4th Rakat, Chapter Ikhlas (no. 112).
Or, Chapter Ikhlas may be recited after Chapter Fatihah in each of the 4 Rakats.
