The moment Hussain Ibn Ali (as) fell off his horse, due to gashing wounds received during the final moments of his life, his horse swiftly galloped back to the camp riderless. Imam Hussain’s family, noticed something happened to Imam Hussain (as), each reacted to the sad news in a different way. One note worthy reaction is that of Abdallah.
Abdallah was an 11 year-old child who had grown up in the arms of Imam Hussain(as). The event of Karbala took place ten years after the martyrdom of his father Imam Hassan (as); so this child was raised by his uncle since he was a year old; hence, he loved his uncle like his own father.
Most likely because Abdallah was an orphan, Imam Hussain (as) would care for him more than his own children. Well, it is clear that having received such an affectionate love, how frantic he felt upon realizing that his uncle had fallen on the battle field. He rushed to Imam Hussain's (as) side.
As it has been narrated and written, when this child came near Imam Hussain, one of the vicious and heartless fighters of Ibn Ziad raised his sword to stab an already wounded body of Imam Hussain (as). When Abdallah arrived he found his uncle on the ground, over him stood a tyrant with his sword raised, prepared to stab the life out of him. Young Abdallah felt so devastated that he couldn’t help but stretch his arm out before the sword, in order to prevent Yazid’s soldier from striking him. But it didn’t stop the lupine beast from using his sword. He brought down his sword slicing into Abdallah’s arm.
The child screamed and sought for help, but this blood thirsty beast did not stop. He moved on, this time behind Abdallah. He pushed the 11 year-old child onto the ground and killed him. Upon witnessing this Imam Hussain (as) was stricken with grief, as he too was helpless. Before his own eyes, they killed his little loved one, the orphaned son of his brother, an 11 year-old child. At that moment he prayed to God, cursing these people from the bottom of his heart.
He called out to God: “O’God please deprive these people from the shower of your mercy.”
