Visiting Syrian President Bashar al-Assad and his entourage met the Leader of the Islamic Republic of Iran Ayatollah Sayyid Ali Khamenei on Monday, August 8.
Speaking at the meeting, which was also attended by Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, the Leader stated that the Syrian president's visit to the Islamic Republic can help to further consolidate the relations between the two countries.
Ayatollah Khamenei also referred to the stable and deep-rooted ties between Iran and Syria and emphasized the need for the expansion of mutual cooperation in various areas.
The Syrian President, for his part, referred to the recent presidential election in Iran as a sign of the national unity and solidarity of the Iranian people. He noted that the election conveyed a clear message from the Iranian nation to the West, especially to the United States.
President al-Assad also stressed his country's policy toward the expansion of relations with Iraq and the establishment of security and stability in that country. He further expressed his views on the latest developments in the region.
