In the Name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
The great and honorable Iranian nation!
I am not quite able to describe your firm resolve, strong motivation, deep insight and sincere enthusiasm in writing.
With your meaningful participation and clear message on two consecutive Fridays, you once again displayed your grandeur to the world and showed your power to your spiteful and ill-natured enemies.
You loudly voiced your strong will to defend your national independence. You revealed your firm intention to bravely safeguard the interests of your country and your Islamic Republic, which is the cradle of all the Islamic and revolutionary ideals.
You brought a splendid display of national solidarity and public participation before the eyes of friends and foes and revealed the secret of your strength and firmness in face of the bullying and illegitimate demands of the arrogant powers.
Now, your enemies, confronted with the grandeur and transparency of your democracy, feel humiliated, despite all their prattling, and the great Muslim Ummah across the world feels proud of the capability and potential of your Islamic system, which is the manifestation of the group identity of Muslims.
This brilliant victory of our nation is a result of the divine grace and favor that is conferred on you, the faithful people and pious and dedicated youngsters. It is a triumph from Almighty Allah. I humbly kneel to the Almighty in deep gratitude and pray for the continuity of His grace and favor on you, the honorable and patriotic nation.
I also advise you and myself to be humble, grateful to and remembering the Almighty and to observe moderation and clemency.
Congratulating President-Elect Dr. Mahmoud Ahmadinejad on undertaking this momentous responsibility, I would like to mention a few points to him and to all Iranian citizens:
1 - The time of election is the time of excitement. With the end of election, excitement should be replaced by poise and dignity, friendliness and cooperation. All Iranian citizens, whether they are supporters of the elected candidate or supporters of other esteemed candidates, should display tolerance, moderation and wisdom.
No emotion, whether arising from happiness or sadness, should cause a person to act in such a way that is beneath the dignity of a committed and wise individual. National unity, toleration and forbearance will ensure the country's security and foil any plot and conspiracy.
2 - After much has been said and heard about the presidential election for the past few weeks, now it is time for action and concrete measures. The president-elect is expected to make the most of the valuable time that is available to him before he is inducted into office.
It is advisable that this opportunity be used to deal with those measures which should be taken when he is installed as President and undertakes the momentous responsibility of the office. All the country's officials and elites in various sectors should consider assisting him a human and Islamic commitment.
3 - The effective and decisive role that was played by all presidential candidates in creating this great epical national event is something undeniable, and everybody is expected to be thankful to them.
I express my deep gratitude to all the esteemed candidates, especially to Hojjatoleslam Hashemi Rafsanjani, who is an asset to our revolution and one of the prominent personalities of the Islamic Republic. I hope this dear friend and long-time companion will play an effective role as before in the important arenas of the Islamic system.
4 - I am grateful to all Iranian citizens, who once again created a great event conducive to our country's dignity and progress, and to all those who infused enthusiasm and spirit into this great trial, especially the senior Ulema and clergymen, academic intellectuals and elites and various social, political and cultural figures.
My thanks are also due to the national media, particularly the Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB), which played a significant role in this general movement and did so in an innovative manner, and to all the reporters, journalists and news analysts.
I also express my gratitude to the officials in charge of holding the election, the esteemed Guardian Council, the Interior Ministry, governor-generals, local governors, executive and supervisory officers and the law-enforcement, security, intelligence and judicial forces, who made great efforts to ensure security over the recent days. I invoke divine remuneration and favor on them all.
My praise is once again due to Allah, the Almighty, for His grace and blessings on our country and nation. Also, my sincere greetings to His Holiness Imam of the Age - may our souls be sacrificed for his sake. I invoke his favor and care and prayer.
Greetings be upon the pious servants of Allah
Sayyid Ali Khamenei
