Members of the High Council of Cultural Revolution (HCCR) called on the Leader of the Islamic Republic of Iran Ayatollah Sayyid Ali Khamenei on Saturday, December 8.
In an address to the audience, the Leader stated that the main objective pursued by the Iranian nation is to attain a thriving, monotheistic, dynamic, hopeful, just, self-confident, progressive and advanced society characterized by reliance on Almighty Allah and imbued with the spirit of commitment and self-sacrifice. Describing culture as the motive force of society, he added that culture is the most important factor contributing to the accomplishment of the above objective.
Ayatollah Khamenei also told the audience that culture has a strong influence on different aspects of society. He pointed out that public culture not only influences individual and social behavior, but that it also plays an influential role in decision-making and decision-implementation on the part of the government. "This is the reason why public culture should be properly shaped and directed," Ayatollah Khamenei added.
Further in his statements, the Leader of the Islamic Republic noted that the revolutionary Muslim Iranian nation is trying to lay the foundations of an ideal society.
"While avoiding the discourse that is merely theoretical and conceptual in nature, efforts should be made to adjust the present cultural situation to the ideal conditions, and after identifying the existing faults and shortcomings and problems and studying their causes, timetabled plans should be made to remove those problems and shortcomings and pave the way for the accomplishment of ideals and objectives," the Leader told the audience.
He also stated, "The activities of the High Council of Cultural Revolution should prepare the ground for the administration of social justice and the promotion of proper individual and social behavior and the deepening of religious beliefs in society."
Ayatollah Khamenei further noted that encouraging dynamism and innovation, increasing individual and national self-confidence and hopefulness, promoting proper consumption and boosting inclination toward domestically manufactured goods, paying greater attention to Islamic and Iranian and revolutionary styles and designs in the country's general architecture and displaying valor in acting and taking risks are among positive cultural objectives. Underlining the fact that achieving the above objectives is possible, he stressed that the accomplishment of these goals requires appropriate planning and making more earnest efforts in the field of cultural engineering.
Elsewhere in his remarks, the Leader of the Islamic Republic expressed his appreciation for the dynamism and seriousness displayed by the High Council of Cultural Revolution, especially by President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad who chairs the council and by the council's secretary, in performing its momentous responsibilities. He pointed out that the High Council of Cultural Revolution is expected to direct a coordinated movement on the part of all state organizations and institutions toward the accomplishment of national ideals and objectives.
Ayatollah Khamenei further stressed that the council's ratifications are binding and should be put into effect by all state organizations. He also underlined the need for increased exchange of views between the council and the elites and experts at the Iranian universities and Islamic seminaries.
At the beginning of the meeting, President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said that the High Council of Cultural Revolution views culture as the prevalent spirit and the main criterion for all activities. He added that the council in its new term has been able to make the revolutionary discourse predominant in society and give a fresh impetus to revolutionary ideals and objectives and bolster up national solidarity.
The chairman of the High Council of Cultural Revolution also noted that the council has taken effective measures to prepare the ground for the flourishing of talents and support and expand relations with elites and amend structures and revise decisions.
The secretary of the High Council of Cultural Revolution Dr. Mokhber also presented a report on the formation of specialized committees in the area of cultural engineering and preparing the comprehensive scientific map of the country and renovating the country's educational system. He added that the country's comprehensive scientific map will be prepared and presented in less than one year.
Dr. Mokhber also said that there is good interaction between the council and the Iranian universities and Islamic seminaries with the intention of creating chairs of free thought at the country's higher education centers.
