Ayatollah Khamenei the Leader of the Islamic Revolution met Saturday evening with the President of Pakistani Asif Ali Zardari and his accompanying delegation. Speaking at the meeting, which was also attended by President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, the Leader of the Islamic Revolution said that Iran and Pakistan share religious, historical and cultural grounds and added that any progress by the faithful people of Pakistan is a source of joy for the Islamic Republic of Iran.His Eminence further stated: "In the long history of resistance by the people of Pakistan, figures such as Muhammad Ali Jinnah and Muhammad Iqbal distinguished themselves and the outstanding characteristic of this resistance was the commitment of the Pakistani people to Islam."
The Leader of the Islamic Revolution reiterated that the only way to put an end to the current problems and sufferings of the people of Pakistan is to continue relying on Islam and Islamic teachings.
Ayatollah Khamenei said that some enemies of the people of Pakistan are threatening Pakistan's national unity and territorial integrity. "Westerners, headed by America, are the real enemy of the Pakistani people and their national unity."
His Eminence expressed hope that God will help the Pakistani nation get rid of its enemies as soon as possible.
In this meeting, President Asif Ali Zardari said that faith in God and relying on Islam will prepare the way for Muslims to make progress and solve their problems.
He said that the Iranian nation has resisted in the face of the pressure that has been exerted on it. He reiterated: "The Iranian nation is a model for resisting and moving on the path of progress."
The Pakistani President also stressed the need to maintain the mutual relations between Iran and Pakistan.
