Leader: Poetry to Promote Revolutionary Values

 The Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Khamenei met with a group of poets on the eve of the auspicious birth anniversary of Imam Hassan ibn Ali (a.s.). In this meeting which was attended by a group of young and elderly poets, the participants recited poems on religious, ethical, epic, and social themes to the Leader.

Ayatollah Khamenei described poems as a great source of national wealth for the country and said: "This great wealth should be increased on a daily basis and be properly used to fulfill the country's requirements."

His Eminence also referred to the promotion of poetry in the country after the Islamic Revolution and stressed: "Some of the best poets who lived in the pre-Revolution era were held in isolation and never found the chance to present their poems. However, our youth have ample opportunities to present their poems after the victory of the Islamic Revolution."

The Leader of the Islamic Revolution also stressed the need for scientific investigation to improve the quality of poetry in the country and added: "The poems of our youth have become more refined compared to 15 years ago and they are based on decent themes."

Ayatollah Khamenei also described the promotion of art in the country as one of the duties of poets and organizations in charge of poetry in the country and stressed the need for the promotion of cultural and moral principles through art and poetry.

His Eminence also described the spirit of brotherhood, purity, sincerity, innovation, optimism, kindness and the ability to take risks as the moral principles lacking in the modern world and said that these characteristics can be promoted and institutionalized in the country through art.

Referring to the current gaps in political and revolutionary poems in the country, Ayatollah Khamenei stressed the need for paying more attention to the message of justice and spirituality spread by the Islamic Revolution in the poems and reiterated: "The Islamic Revolution bas challenged the superpowers and stood up to the expansionist motives of the arrogant powers by introducing new concepts."

Ayatollah Khamenei also described the variations in artistic works of poets as a natural phenomenon and stressed that all poetic works in the country should be based on an Islamic and Iranian theme.
