Ayatollah Khamenei the Leader of the Islamic Revolution, delivered a speech on May 3 to over 20,000 enthusiastic academics and students of Fars province. His Eminence said that a sound judgment about the performance of the Islamic Revolution necessitates a comprehensive outlook on the goals and the progress of the Islamic Revolution as well as the national and international obstacles in the way. "Resistance, nonstop efforts, unity, making efforts to remove the obstacles, and not losing sight of the goals will undoubtedly help realize the ideals of the Revolution," he said.
Ayatollah Khamenei described his meeting with students as delightful, lively, and sincere. Clarifying the past, present, and the future of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Khamenei described fastidiousness in programming and taking actions as absolutely necessary.
His Eminence reiterated that a sound judgment about the Revolution requires that we first reflect on the goals of the great movement of the Iranian nation. "The goals that the people pursued were building an independent, free, and autonomous nation that enjoyed wealth, security, faith, spirituality, and morality. They were trying to build a nation that was a front-runner in the field of science and development to prove to the other nations that there is a model for Islamic communities which could be actualized," he stated.
Clarifying the origin of the goals of the Revolution, the Leader referred to the historical Islamic movement of the Iranian nation and added: "Despite some misguided assumptions and interpretations about Islam, all the goals of the Revolution concerning this world and the hereafter result from its Islamic characteristics because this noble religion takes all material and spiritual needs of man into account and tries to fulfill them."
The Leader of the Islamic Revolution referred to reflection upon national and international obstacles as another necessary factor to judge the performance of the Islamic Revolution and reiterated: "According to divine laws, all movements come up with some obstacles before such concepts as jihad and resistance are realized. Of course, if these concepts are realized, the divine law that promises victory for mujahidin (that is, those who make efforts for the sake of Allah) will apply."
Clarifying the national obstacles to the Islamic Revolution, His Eminence also referred to problems such as intellectual weaknesses, laziness, laxity, avoidance of challenges, and being unprepared to deal with problems. The Leader of the Islamic Revolution also made a reference to other problems such as misguided habits left from the Pahlavi era - diffidence and submission to oppression, misinterpretation of religious concepts in regard to fighting oppression and the issue of Imam Mahdi (a.s.) - as well as superstitious beliefs. Ayatollah Khamenei added: "Many of the obstacles have been removed through the efforts made by the public and the officials."
Regarding international obstacles, Ayatollah Khamenei said: "The deployment of anti-revolution rebels and all those who suffered losses due to the Revolution and the eight-year imposed war were some of the obstacles that we had to face on the international front. Of course, the Iranian nation turned this threat into a genuine opportunity for growth and progress. However, imposing a long war on the Iranian nation resulted in many losses for the country."
Referring to the other obstacles, His Eminence pointed to the plots hatched by superpowers and to America's mobilization of all its political, economic, and media facilities to deal a blow to the Iranian nation and added: "Given the great national and international obstacles, the performance of the Islamic Revolution and the Iranian nation's progress towards the realization of its goals has been very good."
Touching upon the emergence of new national and international obstacles, Ayatollah Khamenei said: "Consumerism, love of luxuries, and aristocratic lifestyles, which are unfortunately common in our society, are some of the national obstacles, and we must remove these obstacles through more efforts on the part of the people, the officials, and the media."
He further reiterated: "Using all its political, economic, and propagandistic capabilities, and with all its international influence, the US has deployed its forces against the Iranian nation. In addition to the American policy of creating an outside enemy in order to paper over their internal failures and weakness, this confrontation has its roots in the fact that the Iranian nation has posed a great threat to the process of global American domination by hoisting the flag of resistance and vigilance for all nations."
His Eminence also referred to the strengths of the Islamic Republic in comparison to the past to clarify the Islamic Republic's solutions for removing national and international obstacles and added: "Extensive experience, efficient management, greater scientific capacities and economic power, not following Eastern and Western models, and understanding the need to formulate an Islamic and Iranian development plan - which should be prepared with greater determination - are among the strengths of the Islamic Republic." He added: "If these conditions are met, the Islamic Republic will remove all the obstacles in the way."
Elsewhere in his speech, Ayatollah Khamenei asked the students and academics to contemplate on the issues discussed in the meeting and offer their solutions. He added: "Of course, the general framework has already been specified which stresses the need for determination and persistent efforts by the Iranian nation and officials."
His Eminence later reiterated: "Such a general framework manifests itself in academic milieus through knowledge, research, proposing new ideas, having a comprehensive view of the Islamic Revolution's goals and remaining vigilant to prevent the enemies from taking advantage of the events and issues concerning students and universities."
The Leader of the Islamic Revolution described faithfulness as vital to the students and reiterated: "Reliance on God, spirituality, familiarity with the Holy Quran and other prayers such as those in al-Sahifa al-Sajjadiyya will cause the scientific efforts of the students and academics to be blessed by God, and will foil the enemies' plots to undermine the religious and revolutionary motives of students."
The Leader of the Islamic Revolution described unity among the Iranian nation in different places such as academic settings as another prerequisite to removing the obstacles and achieving the goals of the Islamic Revolution. He added: "Friendly competitions among students are vital and welcomed, yet differences of opinion should not cause disputes over petty details among any groups."
His Eminence later reiterated: "Scientific efforts, unity, faithfulness, and economic progress with justice are among the current necessities of the Islamic Revolution." He said: "If accompanied by innovation, such efforts will undoubtedly result in victory over the enemies and will hasten the Iranian nation's progress towards achieving its goals."
Ayatollah Khamenei also described justice as the yardstick for all economic activities and added: "Investment and creating job opportunities constitute a great deed and a form of worship, but the heads of the government branches should be vigilant against undermining justice in this process."
His Eminence also expressed his delight over the high scientific, social, political, and ambitious demands of elite students and their representatives. Ayatollah Khamenei later made a few points in this regard and added: "It is necessary to adopt clear-cut policies to support elite students. However, the officials are dealing with the issue, and we should not act hurriedly in this regard."
His Eminence also advised the higher-education officials to consider and put into practice students' suggestions on building research centers for students. He added: "Academic centers should focus on making decisions and creating opportunities for exchange of views through careful thought, negotiation, and practice, further reiterating: "By doing so, they should create a suitable atmosphere for the officials to make suitable decisions."
Elsewhere in his speech, Ayatollah Khamenei advised the students to seek justice at all times and added: "Seeking justice is vital to students and the faithful youth and should never be disregarded. However, students should not focus too much on particular cases since this might be accompanied by mistakes or lack of sufficient knowledge which will provide the opportunity for those who are familiar with the law and who want to violate it."
His Eminence also referred to the role of the students and added: "The Islamic system and I have relied on the faithful, enthusiastic, and ambitious youth after God, and I am certain that the slogans and the goals of the Islamic Revolution will be actualized if the youth are determined."
