Speaking in a meeting with thousands of enthusiastic families of martyrs, war-disabled veterans and revolutionary devotees of Fars province, Ayatollah Khamenei the Leader of the Islamic Revolution said: "The Iranian nation has shown its adherence to Islamic values and has relied on nonstop efforts to achieve national goals and ideals by continuing on the glorious path of the esteemed martyrs." He said: "The Iranian nation will prove its genuine appreciation for the selfless endeavors of the esteemed martyrs and their families by reaching the peak of accomplishments both in this world and the hereafter."
In this meeting, which was held at the holy shrine of Shah Cheragh in Shiraz, Ayatollah Khamenei touched upon the extraordinary and unparalleled events during and after the Revolution. He added: "Among these events martyrs and martyrdom are considered as an exception because all aspects of this issue are full of light and wonder."
His Eminence referred to the motives of martyrs for struggling in the way of Allah, "bravery, creation of epics, and selflessness" in battlefields and "impatience to meet beloved Allah" as the wonders of martyrdom. He added that patience and forbearance of the esteemed families of martyrs are other extraordinary matters that leave one absolutely astonished.
The Leader of the Islamic Revolution said that the Iranian nation owes the esteemed martyrs and their families a great debt of gratitude. "Martyrs, war-disabled veterans, POWs, revolutionary devotees, and their honorable families opened the path of honor and prosperity in the history of this country by taking the first step as pioneers, thereby turning the Iranian nation into a dynamic, determined and independence-seeking nation. This debt of gratitude will never be consigned to oblivion in the history of Iran," he added.
Ayatollah Khamenei said that the 14,500 martyrs of Fars province point to the depth of the religious beliefs of the people in this region. He added: "The warm breath of Imam Khomeini (r.a.) and the spiritual qualities of the esteemed martyr Ayatollah Dastgheib attracted the youth of Fars province to the Sacred Defense battlefields. I was witness to the epics created by the youth of Shiraz in the early days of the war and in the dangerous days after the occupation of Khorramshahr. The bravery and selflessness of the youth of Fars province continued and expanded in the years following the imposed war, which is itself another prominent wonder of the Islamic Revolution."
The Leader of the Islamic Revolution referred to the persistence, expansion, and increasing depth of such historical events as Ashura as proof of the greatness of these events. "The Islamic Revolution and the issue of martyrs and martyrdom are also among the events whose depth and essence will be revealed gradually in the course of time." The Leader of the Islamic Revolution said that the enemies of the Iranian nation also lend proof to the daily increase of the Iranian nation's influence on other nations, further reiterating: "The threats and the violent rhetoric of the Iranian nation's enemies are rooted in the fear which has been raised in their hearts by the Islamic Republic assuming a more fundamental and prominent role in the world."
His Eminence also criticized the ignorant and unwise people who thought the Islamic Republic and memories of Imam Khomeini (r.a.) and the blood of the great martyrs has been consigned to oblivion. He added: "Our ignorant enemies once believed it, but grandeur and progress on the part of the Iranian nation has filled their hearts with disappointment and despair."
Ayatollah Khamenei described the monopolistic and expansionist attitudes of the US and the Zionist network as the basic reason behind their opposition to the Islamic Republic's progress and added: "The greedy outsiders considered Iran, its inexhaustible resources, and its crucial position in the world as a bait to serve their purposes, but the Iranian nation's vigilance and the brilliance of the Iranian youth in different areas- including in the field of nuclear energy- has disappointed and infuriated our enemies."
Elsewhere in his speech, the Leader of the Islamic Republic added: "The reason behind the US officials' anger is not the words of our officials or the Iranian government's polices. Rather, they are concerned and infuriated by the vigilance, motivation, and determination of our youth to tread the path of honor and glory which was led by our martyrs."
His Eminence described martyrs and war-disabled veterans as strongholds for the Iranian nation's resistance and added: "The parents, wives, siblings, and all the family members of martyrs and war-disabled veterans should be proud of them as the standard-bearers of grandeur and dignity."
The Leader of the Islamic Revolution also paid tribute to the wives of the war-disabled veterans and described their endurance and sacrifice as praiseworthy. His Eminence later referred to the brilliance of the children of the martyrs of Fars province in scientific areas and added: "The wives of these martyrs, by bringing up children who tread the glorious path of their fathers, preserve the dignity of their husbands and God the Beneficent will appreciate the efforts of these brave women."
At the end of this meeting, the Leader of the Islamic Republic reiterated: "The future belongs to the great Iranian nation, and the Iranian people and officials will achieve their lofty goals by relying on the determination and talents of their youth and by drawing inspirations form the martyrs' blood."
Fars province offered more than 14,500 martyrs, 35,000 war-disabled veterans, and 2,500 POWs to serve the purpose of Islam.
