On his visit to the city of Shiraz, the Leader of the Islamic Revolution was treated to a warm and enthusiastic welcome by the local residents.
The welcome ceremonies were supposed to take place at Zand crossroads, but the hospitable local residents had gathered in Hafeziye Stadium and the nearby streets several hours before the ceremony started.
Ayatollah Khamenei's car arrived at about 10:15 local time, and the people treated him to flowers and enthusiastic Islamic and revolutionary slogans.
The people of Shiraz had crowded the streets leading to Hafeziye Stadium in which the Leader was supposed to deliver a speech. But with all those people who had engulfed his car, it seemed impossible for the Leader to enter the stadium for some time.
After the enthusiastic welcome by tens of thousands of local residents, Ayatollah Khamenei entered Hafeziye Stadium. Stressing the need for a comprehensive outlook on the causes of the Revolution, he said: "The Iranian nation will continue to resist all threats and sanctions and will turn the threats of the enemies into opportunities for further progress and grandeur."
Having expressed his gratitude for the hospitality of the people of Shiraz, His Eminence described the Islamic Revolution as unparalleled in the long history of Iran. He referred to the lack of attention on the part of all previous rulers to the public and added: "In the course of the great event of the Islamic Revolution, the people entered the arena and selected their own government for the first time. They gave rise to a very far-reaching revolution, and we must consider this historic event and its repercussions from a broad and comprehensive perspective."
The Leader referred to the need to consider various aspects of the Revolution such as historical and geographical factors, motives, goals, essential elements and the costs and described these as necessary for a full understanding of a phenomenon and a change. He criticized the perspectives that consider the Revolution as originating from simple populist tendencies and orientations. "The Iranian nation gave rise to the Islamic Revolution relying on its faith, national pride, historical achievements and cultural legacies in order to attain independence, freedom, national honor, prosperity, well-being and grandeur," he added.
His Eminence referred to 'impediments and costs' as two important factors that have to be taken into account when considering the Islamic Revolution. He reiterated: "Every nation has to pay the price for achieving its goals. The brave and great Iranian nation paid the price for the victory of the Islamic Revolution by going through the eight-year Iraqi imposed war, offering great martyrs in order to deal with the indiscriminate terrorism of the first decade of the Revolution and resisting economic sanctions."
The Leader of the Islamic Revolution referred to the continuous threats by the arrogant powers within the last two years regarding economic sanctions on the Iranian nation and reiterated: "The Iranian nation has suffered such sanctions and bans by its enemies since the beginning of the Islamic Revolution, but has managed to turn these threats into an opportunity for progress, independence and self-reliance. Therefore, they should not threaten our great nation with economic sanctions."
His Eminence also considered the vast propaganda and political efforts by the capitalists' as an effort to force the Iranian nation to give up all its rights including the right to nuclear energy, its dignity, its independence, and its decision-making and scientific progress. His Eminence added: "The enemies of the Iranian nation have been embarrassed by the rate of progress in our country and have increased their pressure, but the Iranian nation will turn every ban and sanction into an opportunity for further progress."
His Eminence considered an inclusive view on the causes and principles of the Islamic Revolution as the basis of having a comprehensive viewpoint and preventing attention to unimportant details. He added: "The foreign media are making efforts to turn every matter, even natural events such as droughts or inflation which are common issues in the world, into the means for mounting pressures on the Iranian nation and officials. Our nation should be vigilant in this regard," he said.
Ayatollah Khamenei also referred to the current economic crisis which was triggered by the U.S. and which later extended to Europe and other regions in the world and which has been unprecedented in the last 60 years. He added: "This crisis has caused the United Nations to declare a state of food emergency in the world, but the foreign media, by focusing on Iran, are broadcasting in a way as if inflation in Iran is due to the inattention of government and other officials while they are completely vigilant on this issue."
His Eminence also added: "By Allah's favor, the problems of our country are much less than those of other countries. However, they should also be solved through the efforts of all the three branches of the government and a sense of public responsibility so that the great Iranian nation will successfully complete the path which it started with faith, power and wisdom, and so that we will form an exemplary Islamic community."
The Leader of the Islamic Revolution also stressed the sensitivity of the enemies towards the economic problems of Iran and added:" The enemies were trying to cause disorders in the economy and were trying to exaggerate those problems last year. But the basic solution to solve current political problems is frugality, being financially disciplined, and refusing to waste funds."
Ayatollah Khamenei also referred to the issue of drought and lack of sufficient water supplies and considered the issue of wasting drinking and agricultural waters as an issue which should be solved by the proper attention of the people and the officials.
In further comments, Ayatollah Khamenei thanked the faithful, loyal, and hospitable people of Shiraz and called this city and Fars province as the land of science, art, and intellect.
His Eminence also stressed: "The presence of the honorable youth of Shiraz and Fars province in the battles of the Sacred Defense and in other events during the Islamic Revolution, bears testimony to the fact that the profound religious beliefs of these people is unshakable. Fars province is considered among the most brilliant and successful regions in terms of scientific and other advances, and they should continue to tread this path with the faith, determination and vigilance of the people and the great scholars of this region."
