Imam Khamenei

Imam Khamenei's recommendation following the cancellation of Itikaf due to the Coronavirus outbreak

Imam Khamenei has always referred to the spiritual ritual of Itikaf (religious seclusion in the Mosque) during “Ayam al-Bayd” (13th to the 15th) in the month of Rajab as a valuable opportunity to purify one’s heart, repent and work on self-improvement. Believers, especially the youth, have embraced this spiritual phenomenon during the years after the Islamic Revolution. They have been taking advantage of this spiritual event by staying in Mosques as a “Mutakif” for three days.”

This year, however, due to the spread of the Coronavirus and the recommendations and instructions issued by the officials to prevent the disease, it was decided that throughout the country the spiritual event of Itikaf not be held.
Given the circumstances, the head of the Central Headquarters for Itikaf addressed a letter to the Leader of the Revolution asking for advice for those who had the intention of attending Itikaf but were deprived of this grace.
In response to this letter, Imam Khamenei made a recommendation for all those who are fond of the spiritual event of Itikaf so that they can take advantage of the month of Rajab’s Ayam al-Bayd this year. The text of his recommendation, which is now being published by KHAMENEI.IR, is as follows:

"Those who are being deprived of the virtuous act of Itikaf can perform the Ja'far Tayyar (pbuh) Prayer during each of these three days."
