Imam Khamenei

Let us bring mental health, security, and vitality to our society with prayer

In a message on the occasion of the 28th nationwide Prayer Conference, the Leader of the Revolution pointed out that prayer is one of the greatest and most fascinating, wonderful blessings that leaves one awestruck in the face of divine phenomena. He added, "Allah bestowed this blessing on us, for us to polish our spirits, inject spirituality into human communications, and give the society mental health, cheerfulness, vitality, security, and freedom from hostile challenges.”

The full text of the Leader of the Revolution's message to this conference - held Thursday in the city of Gorgan - read by the representative of the Leader in the province of Golestan, is as follows:

In the Name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful.

May Allah's blessings be upon the prophet Muhammad, and his pure progeny.
Among the great, divine blessings, which no one can count, some of them have remarkable features, that cause those who think to wonder. One of them is prayer. The combination of words in prayer, the combination of movements in prayer, the order of the mandatory and optional prayer times, the insistence on concentration and presence of mind, the emphasis on praying in mosques and in group prayers, the requirements for cleanliness during it, both for the body and clothes in removing impurities and also in mind and spirit in washing and performing ablutions, the requirement of facing to a certain point - the holy Ka'aba - wherever in the world we are, and many other subtle, precise and meaningful points about this excellent and unique task, leave one awestruck in the face of this divine phenomenon. Allah has blessed us with this great blessing. We can use it to polish our spirits, avoid sins, inject spirituality into human communications, and give the society mental health, cheerfulness, vitality, security, and freedom from hostile challenges. This blessing has taken the form of a mandatory task, so that the society may at least benefit from a minimum of its advantages. A gift of these proportions, which incurs the least of costs in time and money, truly deserves our eternal gratitude.
Dear audience! We are all either lacking or faulty in expressing this mandatory gratitude. Much work still remains to be done, and I hope our hard-working scholar, Hujjatul Islam Qara'ati, will remind all of us about these.

May God’s peace and mercy be bestowed upon all of you,
Sayyid Ali Khamenei
