Office of the Supreme Leader's report on Ramadan moon sighting

The Ramadan new moon has not been sighted in Iran, meaning Monday is the last day of the month of Sha’ban.

In the Name of God, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful,

To the attention of pious and honorable Iranian nation,

Considering the importance of determining the first day of the holy month of Ramadan, several groups went on the mission of sighting the moon across the country. But no reliable report on sighting the new moon has been provided. Thus, based on religious regulations, the sighting of the new moon was not proved to the Supreme Leader of the Revolution, Ayatollah Khamenei, on the eve of Monday. Hence, Monday May 6, 2019 is the last day of Sha’ban.

Thus, the believers who look forward to benefiting from the blessing of fasting on the last day of the month of Sha’ban can fast as a mustahab [supererogatory] fasting or a Qada’ (fulfilling a missed duty) of Ramadan fasts.
