Leader of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Ayatollah Sayyid Ali Khamenei, on Wednesday, August 25, praised the government for its "hard work" and the "services" it has rendered to the people.
In a meeting with President Khatami and the Cabinet ministers, the Leader said that the government is expected to elaborate on the positive work it has done for the betterment of society and the work which remains to be done.
"My evaluation is that the performance of the government has been positive," Ayatollah Khamenei noted, adding, "The positive outcome of your services will be evident in the years to come."
As regards the success of the government in attaining self-sufficiency in wheat production, the Leader pointed out that no one could believe that such an important goal could be accomplished in three years.
Ayatollah Khamenei also advised the government to promote science and technology and to develop a sound relationship between industry and the universities, to proceed with the privatization process and to downsize the bureaucracy.
"Innovation, economic development and social justice should go hand in hand. This is the general policy which should be taken into account in all planning," the Leader stated.
The Leader also paid tribute to the former President Mohammad-Ali Rajaee and the former Prime Minister Mohammad-Javad Bahonar, who were martyred in 1981.
