At the meeting, the Leader expressed his gratitude to the medalists for their remarkable achievements and said that the sporting champions are the symbol of national and Islamic identity of the Iranian nation. "Therefore, any measure taken to promote sportsmanship in society is a valuable measure," he pointed out.
Ayatollah Khamenei also stated, "A major benefit of championships is to create motivation among the youth to engage in athletic and sporting activities."
Further in his remarks, the Leader noted that the Iranian champions openly express their adherence to Islamic precepts and values in athletic arenas. He said that such open expression of faith conveys a spiritual message to a world in which efforts are being made to undermine spirituality and religious values.
