Leader of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Ayatollah Sayyid Ali Khamenei, in a meeting with the director and some employees of the Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB) on Wednesday, December 1, described as "very significant" the role of this national medium in foiling the negative propaganda and cultural aggression of the arrogant powers.
The Leader stated that the IRIB is entrusted with the crucial task of promoting cultural and moral values in society, and he elaborated on some strategies that the IRIB could apply to achieve its objectives.
Further in his statements, Ayatollah Khamenei noted that the arrogant powers are trying to dominate the Middle East and the Islamic region economically, culturally and politically, and that the Islamic Republic of Iran, as the only core of resistance, is standing up to this domination.
The Leader described the attempts made by the arrogant powers to dominate the natural and financial resources of the world as a new form of colonialism. He pointed out that if the arrogant powers succeed in carrying out their schemes, the nations in the Middle East region would fall behind at least for one hundred years in their scientific progress and development. He stressed that the Islamic Republic, as a strong and cognizant entity, is standing against these machinations.
Ayatollah Khamenei considered the real war of the present age to be that between the world media. He stated that the media that are controlled by the arrogant powers have stepped up their negative propaganda and cultural aggression against other nations, especially against Iranian people. He said national media play a very important role in countering this aggression.
Referring to historical facts, the Leader said that victory of the Islamic system is certain in this confrontation. He noted that despite the existing shortcomings, the remarkable achievements of the Islamic system provide enough reasons for being confident and full of hope.
"I believe that by relying on our talented, experienced, innovative, brave, reliable and self-confident human resources, we will be able to solve the existing problems and disseminate our clear message everywhere," he further stated.
Ayatollah Khamenei referred to deepening the people's religious insight, promoting sincere religious practices as well as increasing the people's knowledge and belief in revolutionary values and principles as some of the macro-policies of the IRIB. He pointed out that immunizing public mentality against alien media aggression, deepening public belief in the efficiency of the Islamic system, consolidating public convergence, harmony and unity, and informing the people of sensitive issues related to security and national sovereignty are also among the macro-policies that the IRIB is expected to follow up.
Elaborating on the duties of the IRIB with regard to important matters such as public morality, the Leader emphasized that the real identity of any society is its moral identity. He said that issues such as social discipline and courtesy, respect for the rights of others, self-confidence, individual and national courage, seeking justice and avoiding extravagance should be heeded by the IRIB in all its productions and programs.
Ayatollah Khamenei further noted that the country's development is contingent on its scientific and intellectual progress, and that the IRIB can significantly contribute to this progress. He cited calling for social justice, promoting the awakening movement in the Islamic world and setting the stage for public participation as among other duties of this national medium.
The IRIB Director, Ezzatollah Zarghami, said at the meeting that the Leader's guidelines constitute a functional charter for the IRIB. He added that, presently, qualitative development is the most important objective of this national medium, and that the strategy for qualitative development has been drawn up for the next five years.
Zarghami noted that the top priority of the IRIB is the deepening of religious and moral values in society. He said the formation of advisory groups for each IRIB network is among the measures that have been taken over the past few months.
The IRIB director also said that the national medium has been taking measures to prepare the ground for massive public turnout in the upcoming presidential elections and to create a sound atmosphere for this purpose.
