- Why are the MEK referred to as Munafeqeen or “hypocrites”?
Hypocrisy is an important matter, inasmuch as the Quran has addressed it. Hypocrites are those who pretend to be believers but are not in reality. The group [The People's Mojahedin Organization of Iran (MEK)] that the Iranian nation accurately called ‘hypocrites’ [Munafeqeen] since 1981, were as such. They manifested an ideology that they falsely posed as an Islamic ideology. In their wishful thoughts, they represented the Quran and Nahjul Balagha; and their justifications made others believe they were real believers in Allah. But by careful analysis, we could see it was not the real Islamic thinking that they were manifesting. They had Islamic appearance, but in reality, they had Marxist thinking— in primary and secondary principles— as well as in their methods and approaches. Thus, they were referred to as “hypocrites”; which was an accurate term for them.
At that time, there were communist groups and parties in Iran who openly declared their ideologies. However, the ideology of the MEK was a Marxist ideology, and they would hide it! They pretended they had an Islamic ideology. Maybe even some of its low ranks members or common people within the society thought the MEK were real Muslims. Nevertheless, the wise people could see they were not Muslims in reality. So this denomination— which are called hypocrites [Munafeqeen]— were given the most accurate term as a name; one that rose from the hearts of the people and the name has ever since remained on them.

- MEK´s crimes against Iranian people
I would like to commemorate our dear martyrs Rajai and Bahonar[...]. May God curse the hypocritical and criminal hands who shed the blood of these two dear individuals. Unfortunately today, some western policies are trying to exonerate these notorious individuals. They are trying to portray munafeqeen as innocent and to create an atmosphere of innocence for them. Of course, they will fail. These are individuals who murdered thousands of people inside the country- from public and Friday prayer leaders, businesspeople, young students and Islamic Revolution Guards Corps to families who were sitting at home eating the iftar meal, the heads of the country like Shahid Beheshti, the outstanding personalities of those days, these two great personalities, and many others who reached thousands in number – I do not know the exact figure.
This is while evil and malicious hands in the world of politics – whether those outside the country or their followers and lovers inside the country – want to purify these terrorists, portray them as decent and innocent individuals and to damage the reputation of our blessed and enlightened Imam (r.a.). Imam’s (r.a.) reputation cannot be damaged. Thus, they have been unsuccessful until today and they will continue to be unsuccessful in the future.
We have 17,000 martyrs who were victims of terrorism: 17,000 martyrs! Is this a small figure? Is it a minor event? Those who carried out these assassinations are freely moving around in western countries. Who were the victims of these assassinations? Shopkeepers, farmers, scholars, university professors, pious believers, children and women were the victims. Seventeen thousand martyrs has been recorded in the history of the Islamic Revolution. Well, this has two dimensions in it: one is revelations about those who claim to be fighting against terrorism. This is a mirror that reflects their false claims and that shows how untruthful, deceitful, vicious and mean they are to support these numerous terrorists. This is while they claim that they are against and opposed to terrorism. This is one side of the issue.
Another side is that although our people have given 17,000 martyrs of terrorism - apart from the martyrs whom they gave in the Sacred Defense Era - they have stood firm at the service of the Revolution and its path and at the service of fighting against the enemies of the Revolution.
- MEK´s crimes against the people of Iraq
Do you remember that for a while propaganda was spread by the liberals, the disgraceful fled [Abolhassan Banisadr] and the callous MEK, on the streets of Tehran, against Imam [Khomeini], against this nation, against policies of the Islamic Republic? They aimed at weakening the people’s beliefs, so they could blow a strike at the right time. They always do such things; be vigilant so your beliefs won’t get damaged by them.
Currently, the MEK is active as a hireling agent of Saddam Regime in Baghdad and other cities of Iraq! They suppress Kurd-majority towns in Iraq. They massacre the Shia Arabs in the south of Iraq! The MEK used to spread anti-war propaganda in Tehran, around 10 or 11 years ago, blaming Iran for fighting the war against Iraq. But today they have reached this point! This is not accidental; this is a policy that starts there and ends here.

- What incident scandalously exposed the MEK?
The incident that happened on the 7th of Tir is one that is related to the fate of the Revolution and the Islamic Republic. It determined the destiny of the Islamic Republic. Those who were martyred in that incident were among the best and most outstanding elements of the Islamic Republic and the Islamic Revolution whose names will never be forgotten - particularly, outstanding and spiritual personalities such as Shahid Beheshti (may God bestow paradise on him) and certain other people. But despite all these things, the incident revealed the true nature of munafeqeen in the country as well as their supporters, namely the elements of the arrogant powers. For a newly established political system, removing the mask of its enemies is not a small issue. Members of munafeqeen, who claimed to be followers of God, the Holy Prophet (s.w.a.), Islam and Nahjul Balaghah, were disgraced by this incident. They revealed to what extent they were opposed to the pillars of the Islamic Republic, to reasonable and outstanding personalities, to great religious scholars and to sincere and competent officials of the country. Their masks were removed.
The 7th of Tir was not a minor event. They presumed that they had terminated the influential managers of the Islamic Republic - 72 people - at once. A personality like Shahid Beheshti was among them. He was one of the few geniuses of his time. He was a personality who has few peers in all generations. If they take away - at once - from the people such a personality and a large number of competent ministers, the members of the Majlis and political and revolutionary activists, what is the natural and ordinary effect of this event? Naturally, it should have led to the defeat of the people and the Revolution, but it proved to be the exact opposite of this. What happened was the exact opposite of the enemy's expectations: the people became united, the Revolution took its real and correct direction and the plot of the enemies of the people were revealed and they were disgraced.
There were some people who played the role of accomplices in this grave crime. For many years, they portrayed a different picture of themselves to the people and the youth with their propaganda. They introduced themselves as advocates of freedom and values, but they revealed their true colors. It became clear that they were a bunch of terrorists who were devoid of any intellectual, ideological and revolutionary basis. It was they who sought refuge with someone like Saddam Hussein shortly after this event. They worked against both the people of Iraq and the people of Iran. They participated in the arena of war and fought against their own people. Is there a better way for revealing the true colors of such people? They were accomplices in that crime and some people acted behind the scenes. Their true colors were revealed as well. They were some people who supported and approved of this crime. They too were disgraced whether inside or outside the country.
- MEK's armed activities at universities
The University of Tehran became turbulent, but this was done by Marxist and Munafeqeen - the so-called Mujahedin Khalq - grouplets. It was they, not Muslim students, who had turned the University of Tehran into a weapons store.
In the first months after the victory of the Revolution, I used to visit the University of Tehran Mosque every week. Every week, I delivered a speech for students and answered their questions. Muslim and revolutionary students used to come, listen to my statements and leave in a peaceful environment. And they were many, but there was no war room, no guns and no inappropriate slogan. In the beginning of the Revolution, I - at that time, I was not a president yet, rather I was a member of the Council of the Islamic Revolution - used to deliver a speech in student environments in Tehran. The environment was a peaceful and reasonable one. So, all elements for a revolutionary environment existed in those days. Perhaps, there are some people among you - those brothers and sisters who were students in those years - who remember this. I used to go to the University of Tehran on certain days and on one of these days - I do not know if it was Sunday or Monday - communist grouplets took control of the University. There was a danger of anarchy. I went to the university according to the schedule. A number of Revolutionary Guards Corps accompanied me. They said, "Do not go there. It is dangerous." I said, "What danger? We will go." We went to the mosque, but nobody was there and we came back.
Those who had created an insecure environment for the University and who wanted to inject their ideas into the other side with the power of bullying and pressure - and if this did not work, with the power of bullets - were not Islamic groups. They were either Marxist grouplets or the Mujahedin Khalq grouplet that was a version of Marxism. They called themselves "Islamic" but their nature, their thoughts, their ideology and their writings were pure Marxism. We do not have such a thing in Islam, rather we have persuasion in Islam. "There is no compulsion in religion" [The Holy Quran, 2: 256] means that religious ideology cannot be promoted and reflected except with persuasion. You should be able to persuade because this attracts individuals. This is one of the ways to attract.
- Imam Khomeini gave the MEK a chance for correction
Imam delivered a message to the munafeqeen grouplet which wanted to meet with Imam. He said to them, "I myself come to you if you act according to the truth. I myself come to you if you stop committing such wrongdoings". Imam spoke to and behaved towards them in such a tolerant way. However, when one feels danger - particularly when the issue is about promoting wrong principles in the Islamic Republic and the Revolution - one will react because this [promoting wrong principles] is like a deadly poison. In such conditions, Imam did not show any consideration, he did not tolerate them anymore and he confronted them. But such confrontation takes place during fundamental differences.
- MEK, the Khawarij of the time
If you want to know the Khawarij, I can introduce you a counterpart in our time. Do you remember the MEK [aka Monafeqeen or ‘hypocrites’ among Iranians]? They would recite verses of the Quran, they would recite sermons from Nahjul Balagha, they claimed to be believers [of Islam], they regarded themselves as the best Muslims and the most revolutionary. Yet they would carry out bombings which would murder a whole family, adults and children alike, at the time of iftar in the month of Ramadan! Why? Because the members of that family were supporters of Imam Khomeini and the revolution. They would place a bomb in a main square of a city and murder innocent crowds of people. They martyred the eighty-year old, pious, devout man, who was an entrepreneur for the cause of Allah, by a bomb explosion, while he was praying in the mihrab. They killed four, five devout, renowned scholars while they were in prayers [hence, they are called the martyrs of the mihrab: Ayatollah Mohammad Ali Qazi, Ayatollah Sayyid Assadullah Madani, Ayatollah Mohammad Sadouqi, Ayatollah Sayyid Abdulhussain Dastgheib, Ayatollah Ashrafi Esfahani]. They engaged in such activities. They acted like the Khawarij… you saw the MEK had such claims one day; and later when they needed it, they cooperated with the U.S., the Zionists, Saddam, and anyone else, complying with their commands, in order to fight against the revolution, Imam [Khomeini] and the Islamic Republic establishment! Khawarij were as such.

- The MEK playing the footboy for the US during the 2009 sedition
I will inform you on another matter: these events entailed a force with a distinct triangle pattern [or scheme]. Events did not emerge overnight, but they have been carefully organized. My knowledge is based on information from sources of intelligence. Now, some of this evidence is transparent, some stems from their own statements and part of it has been obtained through intelligence operations.
The pyramidal-like scheme was devised by the US and Zionists. They have been plotting for many months. Their plan was to begin in smaller cities, eventually, they would move towards the centre to provoke enough people to carry out their demands. The money [to finance the scheme] was provided by one of these filthy rich governments around the Persian Gulf [Audience Laughs]. Well, these plots are costly. This takes a lot of money, and the USA is not willing to spend money while such convenient accomplices exist. Hence, the money was made available to them. This completes two sides of the triangle pattern.
The third angle consists of the USA’s submissive, munafeqeen (hypocrites): Mujahedeen-E-Khalq Organization, or the murderous MEK. They were the henchmen. They were prepared months ago: the media of MEK admitted this; they said, recently, that they were in contact with Americans, some months ago, to carry out U.S.’s orders: to organize their plots [riots], meet with this or that person, find and identify individuals inside the country to help them fan out to the people. It was they [MEK] who summoned up certain people, encouraging them to chant slogans like "No to High Prices.”
They began with a slogan [to catch attention] in opposition to high prices. Well, this is a slogan that everyone likes. They sought to attract some people with this message, then enter the centre of the arena to pursue their malicious goals and attract followers. That was their initial goal.
What people did, however, is this: first, some people came to streets--though not a great number; and, just as they saw behind the façade of the enemy, and soon as their slogans became clear, the people separated their lines. The same people, who on Thursday and Friday had participated in the demonstrations for pursuing a demand of "No to High Prices," participated in the greater demonstration led by the people [the righteous people] on the 3rd of January, now chanting slogans against the enemy infiltrators. They chanted slogans against the US and against the munafeqeen (hypocrites), alike. Indeed, the people drew distinctive lines.
The enemies formed two headquarters in areas neighbouring Iran; they admitted this through their own confessions. They [the enemy] did not confess these details inside the country; rather those who gave these things away, and those who made certain statements throughout media, said that two command centers, one for cyberspace and the other for managing seditions, have been set up by Americans and agents of the Zionist regime in areas neighboring Iran. They themselves acknowledged this. In other words, they had preplanned everything; and they thought that a victory would be definite: "Praise belongs to God who made our enemies among the fools," [quoting a hadith in Arabic]. Thank God!
Despite all these incessant events, they failed to understand the people. They still do not understand what this firm barrier of national faith, national resistance, and national courage means. They have not reached the depths of its meaning. That is while the wretched and miserable individuals inside the country said on the one hand, ‘My life be sacrificed for the sake of Iran,’ on the other hand, they burned the flag of Iran! The fools did not understand that these two actions simply cannot go together. Well, we hope that you (MEK) die for Iran! But, when have you stood up to the enemies of Iran? Those who have always stood against the enemies of Iran are the devout, believing, and revolutionary people. Who were the 300,000 martyrs of the Holy Defense era? They were these believing and revolutionary men who defended their country. When have you (MEK) died for Iran, that you shout ‘My life be sacrificed for the sake of Iran’? Is this not a sign of witlessness, inexperience, and naiveté?
- US’s support for the murderers of Iranian and Iraqi people
The U.S. government bears the flag of fighting terrorism and shamelessly repeats its claims, while cooperating with the MEK— the terrorist group whose hands are stained with the blood of the Iranian people, Iraqi Kurds and Shias; the terrorists who fought alongside Saddam forces against Shias during the 1991 uprisings in Iraq, when Saddam massacred Shias in the South of Iraq and other regions.
Terror and assassinations are their job: they admit it and take pride in it. The world recognizes them as terrorists; however, the U.S. supports them. As a result, terrorism is considered to be bad when it is not in the service of the U.S., but, when terrorism serves the U.S., then it is absolutely fine and there is nothing wrong with it! This is an example that reveals the true meanings of their ‘war on terror’, and democracy.

- The MEK’s services to the US and the European countries
Foreign powers were not the only ones who confronted the Islamic Republic. There were some groups inside the country as well. I will tell you that from the first day of the Revolution, there have been three hostile orientations which have confronted the Islamic Revolution and the movement of our magnanimous Imam: one orientation was the so-called liberal orientation which leaned towards the west and the US. It was deeply attached to the US and the west. Another orientation was comprised of armed Communists who had no scruples and would do anything. The last orientation was the disgraceful MEK [aka Monafeqeen or ‘hypocrites’ among Iranians] which had an Islamic appearance, but which was vicious and without any faith and identity in reality. They were even willing to stand under the flag of the notorious Saddam and to use him for their own goals. These were the three main hostile orientations in the country, but all three were defeated by the Islamic Revolution. In the present time, they are living in the shadows of countries like France, England, the US and the like by flattering them, and giving them information and intelligence.
