Majlis Speaker and Deputies Call on the Leader

The speaker and deputies of the Islamic Consultative Assembly (the Majlis) called on the Grand Leader of the Islamic Republic of Iran Ayatollah Sayyid Ali Khamenei on Sunday, May 29.

In an address to the audience, the Leader described the Majlis as the center for formulating the managerial software used by the country's executive organs and placed emphasis on the need to enact well-meditated and stable laws by the Majlis. He also stressed that preserving the atmosphere of benevolence, congruity and cooperation should be the top priority of the Islamic Consultative Assembly.

Ayatollah Khamenei further expressed his appreciation for the efforts made by the 7th Majlis to pass laws beneficial to the country and nation. In particular, he praised the Majlis for the stances taken by the people's representatives on certain issues of foreign policy and Iran's peaceful use of nuclear energy.

"The 7th Majlis deputies, who garnered the people's votes by expressing their adherence to revolutionary principles and the ideals of the founder of Islamic Republic late Imam Khomeini, are entrusted with a heavy responsibility. This is because by voting for these deputies, the people showed them the real direction that the country should take. The voters also refuted the claims by certain individuals alleging that the era of revolutionary values and ideals of Imam Khomeini has come to an end," he told the people's representatives in the Majlis.

Further in his statements, the Leader of the Islamic Republic called on the Majlis deputies to be well prepared to study the bills and motions by consulting experts and specialists in advance. He also referred to the Majlis Research Center as playing an important role in this respect.

"The notification of the general policies of Article 44 of the Constitution has provided the people's representatives with a favorable opportunity to devise a stable economic system by enacting effective and comprehensive laws," the Leader observed.

Elsewhere in his remarks, Ayatollah Khamenei underlined the need for a legal, logical and sound relationship between the legislative and executive branches of the government.

"Solidarity, unity and harmony will bring power and dignity to the country on the international front and prepare the groundwork for the implementation of necessary laws and regulations on the domestic front," he pointed out.

Touching on the plots of the enemies against the Islamic system, the Leader advised government officials and statesmen to perform their duties in such a manner as to avoid playing into the hands of the enemies.

"The creation of rifts among government officials, the dissemination of disbelief and corruption in society, the creation of mistrust between the people and the government and the discrediting of various government organs such as the Judiciary, the Guardian Council and the Majlis are among the components of the plots hatched by the enemies against the Islamic Republic," the Leader told the audience.

He further stated, "Unfortunately, some individuals, due to their lack of insight and discernment, are helping the enemies carry out their plots. Therefore, it is necessary for all government officials and organs to be heedful of their stances and attitudes."

In conclusion, Ayatollah Khamenei advised the Majlis deputies to preserve an atmosphere of harmony, poise, dignity and tactfulness in the Majlis.

"The general direction that one should take in life is observing piety, prescribing the good and forbidding the evil. The Majlis deputies, while following this general direction, should also dedicate themselves to public service during their four-year term of office," the Leader of the Islamic Republic told the people's representatives in the Majlis.

Before the Leader's address, the Majlis Speaker Gholamali Haddad-Adel presented a report on the performance of the 7th Majlis over the past year since its formation. He described the protection of the independence, freedom, honor and dignity of the Iranian nation as the general direction taken by the 7th Majlis.

Haddad-Adel also pointed out that the Islamic Consultative Assembly, by enacting effective laws over the past year, has tried to administer justice in society, raise the living standards of underprivileged strata, control inflation and solve the problems facing different social classes.

Hinting at the supervisory role of the Majlis, he said that the people's representatives are going to fulfill this role with due respect for other government organs and based on logic and reasoning. The Majlis speaker also stressed that the deputies will make every effort so that the upcoming presidential elections will be held in the country in the best possible manner.
