Several members of the National Security Council (SNSC), the experts and staffers of the council's secretariat and the officials responsible for handling Iran's nuclear dossier called on the Leader of the Islamic Republic of Iran Ayatollah Sayyid Ali Khamenei on Monday, August 15.
Speaking at the meeting, the Leader referred to security as the major factor contributing to the nation's full-scale progress and development and to the promotion of justice in the country. He also stated that in modern world, presence on the international scene should be characterized by strong, clear and convincing logic as well as total vigilance and observance of diplomatic delicacies.
Ayatollah Khamenei further described the National Security Council as an important center for the study of major domestic and international issues.
"The significance of the National Security Council is due to the fact that it is chaired by the president of the Islamic Republic, and that its meetings are attended by Cabinet ministers and experts well-versed in domestic and international issues," Ayatollah Khamenei told the audience.
The Leader of the Islamic Republic of Iran also noted that the SNSC's secretariat, as the council's motive force and active executive department, has performed well, especially with regard to Iran's nuclear dossier, over the past years.
Elsewhere in his remarks, Ayatollah Khamenei expressed his appreciation for the efforts made and services rendered by the SNSC's Secretary Hassan Rowhani.
"Mr. Rowhani is one of the competent, dynamic and dedicated officials of the Islamic Republic, and his performance over the past 16 years has been wise, firm and constant," the Leader pointed out.
At the meeting, Rowhani presented a report on the performance of the SNSC's secretariat. He also said that over the past 16 years, the National Security Council faced various important issues such as UN resolution 598, the Iranian prisoners of war in Iraq, Iraqi military aggression against Kuwait and the ensuing attack on Iraq by Allied Forces, the collapse of the former Soviet Union, U.S. attacks on Afghanistan and Iraq and their repercussions and, finally, Iran's nuclear dossier.
The SNSC's secretary emphasized that thanks to the Leader's guidelines, the National Security Council has taken appropriate stances on all these issues.
