Leader Attends Qur'an Recitation Ceremony

The Leader of the Islamic Republic of Iran Ayatollah Sayyid Ali Khamenei attended a Qur'an recitation ceremony on Thursday, October 6.

A number of superior Qur'an reciters from some 45 counties recited parts of the holy Qur'an at the ceremony.

Speaking at the gathering, the Leader stated that those reciting the holy Qur'an should ponder over the profound meanings of the verses. He also noted that faith, purity of the soul and insight are the secret of benefiting from the teachings of this divine book, which provide the real remedy for the afflictions of mankind.

Ayatollah Khamenei pointed out that one of the reasons for promoting the recitation of the holy Qur'an in society is to make the people further familiar with the divine teachings of the holy Qur'an.

"Today, by the favor and assistance of Almighty Allah and thanks to the Islamic Revolution, our country is resounding with the recitations of the holy Qur'an. The Iranian people, especially our youngsters, should try to boost the current Qur'anic trend by getting further familiar with this holy book and by pondering over its divine verses," Ayatollah Khamenei remarked.

Further in his statements, the Leader of the Islamic Republic noted that Qur'anic wisdom infuses human beings with endurance, hopes and firm determination to tread the right path. He emphasized that not acting upon the divine verses of the holy book, especially those verses instructing Muslims not to associate with the enemies of Allah and Islam, has given rise to the current problems facing Islamic countries.

"Unfortunately, Islamic countries are not acting upon the divine teachings and instructions enshrined in the holy Qur'an. In spite of this, Islamic awakening is on the rise among Muslim nations," the Leader told the audience.

At the end of the ceremony, the participants in the gathering said their evening and night prayers, which were led by Ayatollah Khamenei. Then, they broke their fast in the presence of the Leader of the Islamic Republic.
