A number of poets and literary personalities called on the Leader of the Islamic Republic of Iran Ayatollah Sayyid Ali Khamenei on Wednesday, October 19.
The meeting took place on the auspicious birth anniversary of Imam Hassan Mojtaba (greetings be upon him), the grandson of Holy Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him and his infallible household).
At the cordial gathering, several of the poets recited their compositions. Some of the poems were in praise of the infallible household of the Holy Prophet (greetings be upon them) and the unique administration of justice by the Commander of the Faithful Imam Ali-ibn-Abitaleb (greetings be upon him).
Other poems focused as their themes on awaiting the reappearance of His Holiness Imam Mahdi (may Almighty Allah hasten his reappearance), recognizing the virtues and blessings of the holy month of Ramazan and paying tribute to honorable martyrs and war-disabled veterans.
In an address to the audience, the Leader stressed the need to further promote the Persian language and literature in society. He also expressed pleasure over the emergence of remarkable literary talent in youngsters, especially in the post-revolution era.
Ayatollah Khamenei stated that young poets should try to give rise to new ways of expressing meaning, and that they should use new interpretations to create political, social and spiritual concepts. He also emphasized the significance of eloquent melody, rhythmic utterance as well as modern expressions and notions in poetry.
Further in his statements, the Leader told the gathering that poetry should not only be melodious and contain delightful concepts, but it should also be intelligible to the public. He stated that even a symbolic poem should be understandable to its audience.
At the beginning of the meeting, the poets and literary personalities said their evening and night prayers, which were led by Ayatollah Khamenei. Then, the participants at the meeting broke their fast in the presence of the Leader of the Islamic Republic.
