Nojeh Coup

A coup against Iran's army and elected establishment: Ayatollah Khamenei narrates

One young pilot arrived at midnight, knocking on our door, he urged us to listen to him. He revealed that a coup d’etat would take place within the next twenty four hours.

*On June 9, 1980 a coup was plotted by foreign infiltrators  in order to overthrow the newly established Islamic Republic of Iran. The coup failed miserably.

"A while after these incidents, they plotted the coup at the Martyr Nojeh army base. This was also plotted by enemies' intelligence machines to take over the army. They hoped to to successfully take over the army--this was their primary goal--consequently, terminating the revolution; and if they failed in their ultimate goal, then they would try to create a gap between the people and the army, as well as the revolution and the army.

Indeed, it was a dangerous conspiracy, but this conspiracy was defaced by the military forces. Perhaps the Iranian nation does not know that those who prevented a dreadful conspiracy, at the the Martyr Nojeh Base, were young army informants. One young pilot arrived at midnight, knocking on our door, he urged us to listen to him. He revealed that a coup d’etat would take place within the next twenty four hours.

During the next stage, the individuals following the issue; namely, the religious military forces at the base played the most important role in preventing the coup d’etat. The ones who saved the army at the time, were members of the army. The Army prevented the enemy from entering the base, as they realized their planned conspiracy. The young pilot informer became a disabled war veteran later. Wherever he is now, I wish him all the best of God’s mercy. This was again a trial of faith: the enemy’s conspiracy was nullified by Iran's army.

The military passed other trials after this incident. As I look back, and review the memories in my mind, I recall there was a plot for a coup d'etat before the onset of war; it was composed of elements from air and land forces, civilians, etc. The initial reason for the neutralization of the operation was due to an air-force officer, a pilot! He told me all about that conspiracy, the system was informed and prepared. A huge movement, which could have formed at the base of Martyr Nojeh in Hamedan, spreading from there to Tehran and elsewhere, was foiled by an element of the air-force. I will always remember it. The whole system will always remember this act of heroism, a great help and service to our nation.

The US did not stop there; they also supported the coup d’etat against the newly-born revolution. They initiated a coup d’etat right here: the coup d’etat at the Base of Martyr Nojeh, a very well-known one. You must have heard of it. We were well aware on the details of this scheme. It was a dangerous conspiracy, plotted and prepared, but never accomplished."
