The visiting Sudanese President Omar Hassan al-Bashir and his accompanying delegation met the Leader of the Islamic Republic of Iran Ayatollah Sayyid Ali Khamenei on Tuesday, April 25.
In an address to the audience, the Leader referred to Sudan as the vastest Islamic county with an ancient civilization, abundant natural resources and remarkable human talent.
Ayatollah Khamenei stated that the Sudanese government has come under pressure from alien powers because of its independent views and policies. "We hope that Sudan's territorial integrity will be preserved, and that the issue of the west of this country will be resolved in the way that the issue of southern Sudan was resolved," he added.
The Leader further pointed out that the capabilities and resources of the Islamic world by far surpass the problems that are facing Muslim nations.
"If Muslims and Islamic governments use their abundant material and human resources in an appropriate manner and stand up to arrogant powers, these powers will not be able to bully and pressure Muslim nations," the Leader noted.
Ayatollah Khamenei referred to the preservation of unity and avoiding discord and schism as the main factors thwarting arrogant powers in their plots and machinations.
"Arrogant powers headed by the United States have grown weaker and weaker over the past years. Based on divine providence, when powers become arrogant and rebellious, their decline and downfall will begin," Ayatollah Khamenei stated.
The Leader of the Islamic Republic described U.S. failure in achieving its objectives in Palestine, Iraq and Afghanistan as a sign of the increased decline of the United States. He emphasized that the weakness and decline of the United States is currently obvious to all the intellectuals and even the ordinary people in the Islamic world.
"The more Muslim nations insist on Islam and their independence and interests, and the more they expand their cooperation, to the greater extent arrogant powers will back off," the Leader noted.
Ayatollah Khamenei stressed that the most important issue of the Islamic world and the key to solving the problems of Muslims is Palestine. He added that this issue should receive greater attention and consideration than in the past.
Further in his statements, the Leader hinted at the scientific capabilities of the Islamic Republic. He underlined that the nuclear capability of Iranian scientists is just one of the scientific achievements that are currently being accomplished in Iran.
Ayatollah Khamenei also told the Sudanese president that the Islamic Republic of Iran is ready to transfer the experience of its scientists and its scientific and technological achievements.
Speaking at the meeting, which was also attended by Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, President Omar Hassan al-Bashir expressed his pleasure over the expansion of relations between the two countries.
He described the Islamic Republic's success in attaining nuclear technology for peaceful purposes as a great victory for the Islamic world, and he emphasized that Iran's progress and capability has in fact increased the power of the Muslim Ummah.
The Sudanese president further elaborated on his country's situation following the signing of an agreement on the restoration of peace to southern Sudan. He also referred to the present situation of the Darfur region of western Sudan and the false propaganda disseminated by Western media in this regard.
"The reason why current pressures are being exerted on the Sudanese government is because Sudan has adopted an Islamic path and because it possesses abundant oil resources. However, the Sudanese people have the ability to defend their rights, and they will not submit to these pressures," President Al-Bashir remarked.
The Sudanese president emphasized that the stances taken by Tehran and Khartoum on many issues, including the issues of Iraq, Palestine, Lebanon and Syria, are identical.
"In addition to cooperating on the above issues, the two countries can also expand their relations in economic areas," he added.
