A child runs away from his parents' home because of his ignorance. Soon after, he makes his way back into his parents' arms feeling their kindness, compassion and embrace; this is an example of repentance. When we return to the house of divine mercy, Allah the Exalted accepts us and welcomes us with His open arms. We should appreciate the value of this return, which naturally happens to devout people.
I saw images of teenagers, women and men during Quranic meetings and religious ceremonies where they engaged in dua (supplications) and dhikr for the entire month of Ramadan. The tears alone, running down their faces while paying attention to God, were very precious and valuable. These deeds are acts of repentance and we should preserve them. Our careless hearts make mistakes because we fall into temptation: the month of Ramadan has offered us the opportunity to cleanse ourselves. The process of purification is exceptionally valuable: tears may cleanse many of hearts, but they should be preserved. All great pains, deadly and dangerous diseases; arrogance, jealousy, treachery and decadence, which are great diseases, find the opportunity to cure themselves in the month of Ramadan.
While observing the month of Ramadan, these psychological ailments become treatable. During this month, Allah the Exalted pays attention to us and He has certainly done this by now. This year, our Ramadan was outstanding. Quranic meetings and congregations, during which people engaged in dhikr, dua and counsel for self improvement, held during Ramadan, in the presence of people from various social backgrounds and ethnicities were exceptional. Moreover, so many charitable actions were made during the month of Ramadan and vast numbers of underprivileged people were helped throughout this auspicious month! These actions are incredibly valuable: each of these actions opens up a new scent to our souls and each one opens a new door for us. We must preserve these deeds.
I advise younger generations to appreciate the value of these soft and enlightened hearts, because such things happen less when one becomes older. Youth benefit the most from these characteristics. You should safeguard these hearts and souls. You should appreciate the significance of saying prayers on time and being present in mosques; reciting and establishing a close relationship with the Holy Quran and duas which have been narrated by the Imams (a.s.): duas are the treasure of Islamic teachings.
Finally, we should focus on our moral behavior as well, behavior is more important than actions. We must create an environment of brotherhood, kindness and optimism in society.
