Gambian President Meets the Leader

The visiting Gambian President Yahya Jammeh and his accompanying delegation met the Leader of the Islamic Republic of Iran Ayatollah Sayyid Ali Khamenei on Monday, December 4.

Speaking at the meeting, which was also attended by Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, the Leader referred to the sensitive geographical position and the abundant resources of the Islamic countries. He stated that Islamic governments and Muslim nations should try to solve the problems facing the Islamic world themselves by utilizing their capabilities and by relying on the collective identity of the Muslim Ummah.

Ayatollah Khamenei further underlined the significance of unity and solidarity as well as global cooperation among Islamic governments and Muslim nations.

"The insistence of Muslim nations on Islamic principles and independence of the Islamic countries will thwart the arrogant powers in their expansionist goals," Ayatollah Khamenei observed.

Elsewhere in his remarks, the Leader of the Islamic Republic praised the Gambian government's efforts to enforce the Islamic law. He also expressed the hope that the relations between the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Republic of the Gambia would be further expanded.

Gambian President Yahya Jammeh, also speaking at the meeting, underlined the important role that is played by the Islamic Republic of Iran in the world. He said that the Islamic system in Iran has increased the power of Islam and Muslim nations in the world.

The Gambian president further elaborated on the present situation in Africa and the achievements of his government. He also expressed his government's readiness to further strengthen and expand the friendly relations between the two countries.
