Turkmen President Meets the Leader

The visiting Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhammedov and his accompanying delegation met the Leader of the Islamic Republic of Iran Ayatollah Sayyid Ali Khamenei on Tuesday, October 16.
Speaking at the meeting, which was also attended by Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, the Leader stated that Iran and Turkmenistan share a common history and geography. He added that cooperation between neighboring countries will increase the power of those countries.
"Presently there is more potential for cooperation between the Islamic Republic of Iran and Turkmenistan than ever, and the two countries are able to cooperate in the gas sector and in various economic spheres," Ayatollah Khamenei told the Turkmen president.
The Leader of the Islamic Republic further stated that cooperation between the Caspian Sea littoral states will turn the region into an active and lucrative region for all these countries.
Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhammedov, also speaking at the meeting, referred to his first meeting with the Leader of the Islamic Republic that took place a few months ago and the Leader's recommendation at that meeting about the expansion of bilateral relations between the two countries. He said that Turkmenistan's government has been making every effort in order to achieve the above objective.
President Berdimuhammedov also noted that the signing of a document on the cooperation in constructing a railway that will connect Iran and Turkmenistan and Kazakhstan is a clear sign of the determination of the Islamic Republic of Iran and Turkmenistan to increase their cooperation in different areas.
