Yemeni President Sends Written Message to Leader

Visiting Yemeni Foreign Minister Abubakr al-Qirbi met the Leader's advisor on international affairs Ali-Akbar Velayati and submitted to him a written message from Yemeni President Ali Abdullah Saleh to the Leader of the Islamic Republic of Iran Ayatollah Sayyid Ali Khamenei on Wednesday, March 7.
Speaking at the meeting, Velayati underlined the need for the restoration of peace and tranquility to the Islamic world. He said that the Islamic Republic of Iran is concerned about the situation in Yemen, "since the same divisive elements that are trying to foment schism between Shia and Sunni Muslims in Iraq are also seeking to create division and confrontation among Muslims in Yemen."
The Leader's advisor on international affairs also referred to the attempts that are being made by the United States and the Zionist regime to sow the seeds of discord among Muslims in the world. He said that Ayatollah Khamenei has always stressed the need for the consolidation of unity between the Shia and the Sunni.
"Internal confrontations in Yemen are by no means in the interests of Yemen and the Muslim ummah," Velayati pointed out. He expressed the hope that, as in the past, the Yemeni government would be able to restore tranquility in that country through peaceful means and prevent the continuation of confrontations.
Yemeni Foreign Minister Abubakr al-Qirbi, for his part, said that the two countries share similar stances on different regional and international issues, including the issues of Palestine, Lebanon and Iraq. He added that the Yemeni nation and government appreciate the views expressed and the measures taken by the Leader of the Islamic Republic of Iran with the intention of strengthening unity in the Islamic world.
Presenting a report about the internal circumstances in Yemen, Foreign Minister al-Qirbi further noted that the Yemeni government is making every effort to consolidate unity among all the Islamic schools of thought in that country, but he added that foreign elements are trying to foment discord and division in Yemen.
Elsewhere in his remarks, the Yemeni foreign minister pointed out that his government has always supported the Islamic Republic of Iran's utilization of nuclear technology and energy for peaceful purposes.
