Leader's Message of Condolence on the Demise of Ayatollah Fazel-Lankarani

The Leader of the Islamic Republic of Iran Ayatollah Sayyid Ali Khamenei on June 16, 2007 issued a message of condolence on the demise of the senior religious authority and dedicated Islamic jurisprudent Ayatollah Fazel-Lankarani. In his message, the Leader condoled with the Iranian nation and the esteemed family and honorable progeny and other relatives of the deceased. The text of the Leader's message is as follows: ...
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
"Surely we are Allah's, and to Him we shall surely return."
I received the news of the demise of dedicated Islamic jurisprudent the late Ayatollah Fazel-Lankarani with great sadness and regret. His demise is indeed a big loss to the Islamic seminaries and the honorable nation of Iran.
The Islamic seminaries lost one of their main pillars of science and research and one of their prominent instructors, and the Iranian people lost one of their revolutionary and vigilant and dynamic religious authorities.
During the many years under the former dictatorial regime, Ayatollah Fazel-Lankarani was among the prominent personalities from the Islamic seminaries who were present on various scenes of struggle, and who most contentedly endured the suffering of exile. Also, after the victory of the revolution, he was among the eminent clergymen who played a significant role at all crucial junctures. May Allah's mercy be upon him.
I express my condolence over this great loss to His Holiness Imam of the Age - may our souls be sacrificed for his sake, and to the senior ulama and religious authorities and the instructors and students of the Islamic seminaries and to the entire Iranian nation.
I also condole with the esteemed family and honorable progeny and other relatives of the deceased, and I pray to Almighty Allah to bestow patience and fortitude on them.
Greetings be upon the pious servants of Allah
Sayyid Ali Khamenei
