Ayatollah Khamenei the Leader of the Islamic Revolution met Friday evening with the Prime Minister of Syria Wael Nader al-Halqi and his accompanying delegation. During the meeting, His Eminence said that America and the Zionist regime are the main elements behind the tragic events that are happening in Syria. He stressed: "The Non-Aligned Movement is definitely more entitled than America, NATO and certain European countries to become politically involved in the issues of Syria."
Ayatollah Khamenei said that current conditions of Syria and the killings must not continue and added: "The main culprits in the issues of Syria are those who have prepared the ground for flooding weapons into Syria and giving financial support to irresponsible groups."
The Leader of the Islamic Revolution said that providing weapons for the opposition groups in any country and giving them financial and propaganda support would prepare the ground for conditions such as those of Syria. He stressed: "If those who are opposed to the policies of European governments and hold demonstrations, are provided with money and weapons, definitely the same conditions will be created in those countries as well."
Ayatollah Khamenei stressed that the Syrian government has been treated unfairly in the recent developments and added that the Syrian government should not provide its opponents with any pretexts. He added that the Syrian government should continue political reforms and stated: "The Syrian government should explain and expose the realities behind the conspiracy in Syria to Arab public opinion."
In the meeting, Prime Minister Wael Nader al-Halqi expressed his gratitude for the positions adopted by the Islamic Republic of Iran and presented a report of the latest conditions in Syria.
