Ayatollah Khamenei the Leader of the Islamic Revolution met Thursday evening with the Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow. Speaking at the meeting, Ayatollah Khamenei said that friendship and cooperation with neighboring countries is the policy of the Islamic Republic of Iran.
His Eminence welcomed expansion of ties between Iran and Turkmenistan and added that the varied and vast capacities of Iran and Turkmenistan have prepared the way for increasing cooperation between the two countries.
The Leader of the Islamic Revolution stated that the advances made by Turkmenistan are a source of joy for Iran and added: "The common interests in different areas, including the issues relating to the Caspian Sea, can be the basis for further expansion of ties between Iran and Turkmenistan."
President Berdimuhamedow said at the meeting: "We will proudly make every effort to further expand our relations with our great neighbor."
Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow described the 16th Summit of the Non-Aligned Movement in Tehran as very important and said: "Undoubtedly, the results of this summit will have a positive effect on the progress of the member states."
