Ayatollah Khamenei said that diverting attention from the Wall Street movement might be one of the goals of the recent uproar caused by the US. He added: "The people of at least 80 countries have expressed their support for this movement, which is spreading to other parts of America, and this is very bitter and difficult for American officials."
His Eminence referred to the efforts of the US government to suppress its own people and added: "They may manage to suppress this movement by using American police and army, but the movement will not die out."
The Leader of the Islamic Revolution said that the evil Zionist network has spread its domination over American and European officials and warned western statesmen: "The day when nations of the world realize that you are the real cause of their problems - namely, their humiliation before the Zionists - the flames of their anger will definitely burn down capitalism."
His Eminence reminded western officials: "You have turned your back on your own people and you are hated by the majority of your people, but the situation of the Islamic Republic is the opposite and large public gatherings are indicative of the firm determination of the Iranian people and their resistance against all kinds of conspiracy."
Ayatollah Khamenei said that despite all kinds of pressure and conspiracy, the Islamic Republic has not made any concessions over the past 32 years. He further stressed: "Our people are present on the scene. We are all soldiers of the Islamic Republic and Islam and this unified and strong system will stand up against all evil plots and actions without making any concessions."
His Eminence said that today is the time for selfless efforts, resistance and insight. He referred to the wave of Islamic Awakening in the region and added: "In this sensitive situation in which new governments are being established in the region, the overall conditions of the Islamic Republic is one of the important factors that can play a significant role in the present and future situation of the region. Therefore, reflecting upon the structure of the Islamic Republic has become more important."
His Eminence said that movements which ignore existing realities and future prospects often result in deviation and mistakes and added that it is necessary to monitor the path of the movement.
Ayatollah Khamenei stated that an Islamic community is a community in which the great ideals, goals and wishes of Islam are fulfilled.
His Eminence explained: "Justice, freedom, giving the people a role to play in managing the affairs of the country and determining their destiny, national dignity and wealth, public welfare, uprooting poverty and starvation, comprehensive scientific, political, economic, social and cultural progress, avoiding stagnation and making constant progress are among outstanding characteristics of an Islamic community and the Iranian nation and the Islamic Republic are moving towards such a community."
He added: "Of course the ultimate goal of an Islamic community is to help human beings achieve spiritual perfection and divine knowledge."
The Leader of the Islamic Revolution warned against interpreting Islamic and western concepts in the same way and added that it is necessary to draw a clear line between these concepts. "What is meant is only the deep sense of concepts such as justice, freedom, human dignity and other characteristics of an Islamic community and these concepts are completely different from similar western concepts."
His Eminence said that imposing western interpretations on Islamic concepts has always been a problem. He added that when evaluating Islamic concepts, western interpretations should be seriously avoided and that in order to understand the genuine meaning of Islamic concepts, it is necessary to use the Holy Quran and the logic of Islam.
The Leader of the Islamic Revolution reiterated: "Of course westerners are not even committed to the western interpretation of these words. And as they have shown in Afghanistan, Iraq, Libya and other countries, they pursue evil goals - such as controlling important economic and geopolitical regions of the world, exploiting the resources of other nations, supporting the Zionist regime and spreading their hegemony - in the name of democracy and fighting terrorism and proliferation of nuclear weapons. Considering these realities, we decisively say that the kind of democracy that is common in the west is for the most part fake and shaky."
His Eminence referred to the flexibility of the Islamic Republic and stressed: "In current conditions, the President is elected by public vote which is a good and effective method, but if one day - probably in the distant future - it is felt that it is better to elect executive officials by parliamentary vote, changing the current mechanism will not be a problem."
The Leader of the Islamic Revolution added: "Of course any kind of change and reform in the policies, path and structure of the Islamic Republic must be based on Islamic principles and in this regard the necessary measures have been specified in the Constitution."
Ayatollah Khamenei reiterated: "The Islamic Republic enjoys both stability and flexibility."
Elsewhere in his statements, the Leader of the Islamic Revolution explained the meaning of Vilayat-e Faqih in the Islamic Republic and added: "Imam Khomeini believed that Vilayat-e Faqih means dynamic and progressive management and of course our magnanimous Imam was the embodiment of this concept."
His Eminence said that certain people tried to distort Imam Khomeini's interpretation of absolute Vilayat-e Faqih. He reiterated: "They tried to promote the idea that Imam Khomeini's view of Vilayat-e Faqih meant ignoring the law, but our magnanimous Imam emphasized absolute Vilayat-e Faqih and at the same time he was more committed than anybody else to observing the laws, principles and divine commands."
Ayatollah Khamenei said that the Leader is responsible for value-based macromanagement of society and added that this duty is different from the duties of the three branches of government. He said that the role of the Leader is to supervise the activities of government officials and to prevent deviations.
His Eminence added: "Officials of the executive branch, members of the Majlis and officials of the judiciary do their duty within their legal jurisdiction and they may make decisions which the Leader may be opposed to, but the Leader neither has the right nor is able to interfere in such issues unless the adoption of a certain policy causes a deviation in the path of the Revolution. Naturally the Leader would carry out his responsibility in such cases."
Ayatollah Khamenei referred to partisan activities and reiterated: "We are not at all opposed to partisan activities and we believe that such activities are not in conflict with the unity of our society, providing that the right view is adopted."
The Leader of the Islamic Revolution said that if a party is founded with the aim of providing intellectual guidance in political, religious, ideological and other matters and if it does not just aim for assuming power, its activities will be beneficial. "Of course if such parties enter political competitions, they will naturally win."
His Eminence criticized power-thirsty parties and added: "Certain parties - such as current western parties - are in fact clubs for gaining power and they try to achieve power by any possible means, including political collusion. We do not endorse such partisan activities, but we will not stop those who go after establishing a party with this goal in mind."
