Ayatollah Khamenei the Leader of the Islamic Revolution met today with Kuwaiti Prime Minister Sheikh Nasser al-Sabah and his accompanying delegation. Speaking at this meeting, His Eminence said that Islamic countries, particularly those in the Persian Gulf region, should further increase their cooperation.
He referred to the rich natural resources of the Persian Gulf states and said: "Using their rich natural resources, the countries of the Persian Gulf region should make greater scientific and financial achievements and play a more significant role in world politics. And this is a goal which can only be achieved through further cooperation."
Ayatollah Khamenei reiterated that Islamic countries should expand their relations and cooperation and added that it is inadvisable for Islamic countries, particularly neighboring Muslim countries, not to cooperate with one another.
His Eminence referred to Saddam Hussein's military attack against Iran and his subsequent attack against Kuwait and stated: "Saddam Hussein's actions were outside the accepted norms of relations between neighboring countries, and he dealt many blows to the countries of the region."
Ayatollah Khamenei further expressed his satisfaction with the stances of the Kuwaiti government and its cooperation with the Islamic Republic and reiterated that the Islamic Republic is ready to expand its cooperation with the Kuwaiti government in all fields.
In this meeting, the Kuwaiti Prime Minister also expressed his delight at meeting with the Leader of the Islamic Revolution and said that Iran-Kuwait relations are rooted in common historical, cultural, and religious factors.
He said: "The Islamic Republic proved its friendship and brotherhood to the people of Kuwait during the tough days of Saddam Hussein's attack against Kuwait. And we always consider the Islamic Republic as a friend and a brother country."
The Kuwaiti Prime Minister added that the government of Kuwait is determined to expand its relations with the Islamic Republic in all areas and make use of the experience of Iranian experts.
He said that the negative vote of Kuwait against the UN Security Council's resolution on Iran is indicative of the definite and consistent stance of Kuwait on supporting the Islamic Republic.
