Ayatollah Khamenei the Leader of the Islamic Revolution met with the Sultan of Oman and his accompanying delegation. Speaking at the meeting, the Leader said Iran and Oman have had good, brotherly relations during the past 30 years, further reiterating: "Considering the religious, geographical, and historical common grounds between Iran and Oman, there are vast areas for cooperation and expanding relations between the two countries."
His Eminence referred to the Strait of Hormuz between Iran and Oman, which is one of the most strategic waterways in the world, and said that security is the most important issue in the Persian Gulf area. "America and some interventionist foreign countries have constantly undermined peace in the Persian Gulf region infused insecurity and suspicion into this area."
The Leader added: "Through cooperation with each other, Persian Gulf states should preserve the security of this region and further prepare the ground for unity."
In this meeting which was also attended by President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, Sultan Qaboos expressed his delight at meeting with Ayatollah Khamenei and said that the ground is prepared for the two countries to expand their relations. He further added that negotiations had been conducted during his trip to Tehran to expand economic relations between the two countries.
Sultan Qaboos further referred to Ayatollah Khamenei's remarks about the importance of the security in the Persian Gulf and said that the countries of the region should consider the interests of the region and expand their cooperation in order to help establish stable security in the Persian Gulf.
