Following the presidential election, Ayatollah Khamenei issued a message on June 13, 2009. The full text of the message is as follows:
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Dear Iranian nation,
God's greetings be upon you who proved that you deserve receiving divine greetings and grace. Your epic on Friday was an astounding and unparalleled event, in which a beautiful and impressive picture of the political maturity, revolutionary determination, and civil capacities and power of the Iranian nation was presented to the people of the world.
The grandeur that you registered in the history of this country through your equanimity and maturity as well as the strong determination that you demonstrated in the face of the enemies' psychological warfare through your presence in this decisive arena are of such great importance that cannot be described in words. One can only say that the Iranian nation has been able to preserve the prerequisites for divine grace and that it has been able to preserve divine support for the progress and betterment of this country.
The impressive presence of the Iranian nation caused the June 12 election to become a record turnout among our numerous national elections. The high rate of turnout, in excess of 80 percent, and 24 million votes for the president-elect represent a genuine festive occasion, which will, God willing, ensure the progress and betterment of the country, national security, and lasting dynamism of the nation. Thanks to the slogans and values of the Islamic Revolution, yesterday you managed to prove that Iran enjoys great power and immunity against political and psychological warfare. You proved that even after the passage of thirty years since the beginning of religious democracy in this country Iran continues to display fresher and more dynamic presence in the arena, convincing the friends and enemies that it will continue treading its promising path.
Feeling humble before the determination and faith of you dear people, I congratulate the Imam of the Age (may my soul be sacrificed for his sake), the soul of our magnanimous Imam, and all the people on this great achievement. I advise everybody to appreciate this divine blessing and thank Allah the Exalted.
It is thought that the enemies will try to use malicious temptations to make this victory bitter for the Iranian nation. I hereby advise the entire nation, particularly the youth who were the most enthusiastic participants in this exhilarating event, to stay vigilant in the face of such temptations.
The day following the elections should be full of kindness and patience for both the supporters of the elected candidate and the supporters of the other candidates. They should avoid all kinds of provocative behavior and statements. The honorable president-elect is a president for all the Iranian people and everyone, including his opponents in the election, should unanimously support him after the election. This is undoubtedly another divine test, and success in this test can result in divine blessings.
I deem it necessary to sincerely thank all those who played an important role in holding this great event: The honorable candidates who expressed their political and economic views and caused people of different social and political opinions to take part in the election, the elites and prominent figures who invited their followers to take part in this great test, the honorable marja taqlids, prominent ulama, academic elites, prominent social and cultural figures, and the IRIB officials and managers whose innovation played a decisive role in this historic event.
I also thank the honorable officials of the Interior Ministry and the Guardian Council who sincerely fulfilled their significant duty in the election. I also deem it necessary to thank the law enforcement and security officials who created a secure and free atmosphere for the people during the election. Finally, I would like to express my sincere gratitude to the voters who brought about security and stability for themselves and their country through participation in the election.
Once again, I thank Allah the Exalted in supplication and pray to Him to bestow His guidance and blessings on me and the Iranian nation. I also express my greetings to the Imam of the Age (may our souls be sacrificed for his sake) and the immaculate soul of the late Imam (r.a.) and the honorable martyrs.
Greetings be upon you and Allah's mercy and blessings
Sayyid Ali Khamenei,
