Bloodshed in Gaza during this Ramadan upset Muslims throughout the world

The following is the full text of the sermons delivered on April 10, 2024 by Imam Khamenei, the Leader of the Islamic Revolution, after the Eid al-Fitr prayer in Tehran’s Imam Khomeini Mosalla.

First Sermon:

In the Name of God, the Compassionate, the Merciful

All praise is due to God, the Lord of the Worlds. "All praise belongs to Allah, Who created the heavens and the earth and made darkness and light. Yet those who reject faith equate others with their Lord” (Quran 6:1). And peace and greetings be upon our Master and our Prophet, Abul Qasim al-Mustafa, Muhammad, and his untainted, pure, chosen Progeny, particularly the Remnant of God on earth. And peace be upon the Imams of the believers, the guides of the righteous, and the protectors of the believers. O God, I seek Your forgiveness, I repent to You, and I praise You.

I extend my congratulations and best wishes for a happy Eid al-Fitr to all members of the Islamic Ummah, the dear nation of Iran, and to all of you worshipers. God’s mercy showered upon the entire Islamic nation for an entire month. During this month, God's mercy and hospitality encompassed all the members of the Islamic Ummah. Praise God, the beloved nation of Iran was able to make the most of this divine feast to the best of its ability. They brought blessings to the celebrations of the new solar year and the beginning of the month of Farvardin with the spirituality of the holy month of Ramadan.

The effect of the Quran was impressive throughout this month. Praise God, one of the prominent points of this year's month of Ramadan was the prevalence of the recitation of the Quran among different classes of people throughout the country, which was manifested brighter and more beautiful than ever. The national media also played a role in presenting this great development. We should be thankful to Almighty God that the manifestation of the Quran and developing a companionship with the Quran is increasing day by day in the country. Gatherings for remembering God, reciting supplications, beseeching God, and talking with God throughout the month, especially on the blessed Nights of Qadr, were other manifestations of the spirituality of this precious month. It made the divine feast more beautiful and favorable for our dear people, and, praise God, our people were able to take advantage of this feast.

The holy month of Ramadan presents a great opportunity. Many individuals used this opportunity in the best way possible. Praise God, the nation benefited from this month. I strongly advise you to keep this spiritual reserve for yourself, in particular our dear youth. Praise God, the youth in our country have a desire to be religious and pay attention to the remembrance of God, zikr, and supplications. This is a wonderful opportunity during the month of Ramadan, and this opportunity was used. Keep this [blessing] for yourselves. Consider this to be a spiritual reserve for yourselves.

The matter of fasting is very important. What was reported to me this year was that at times people were seen eating in some streets in Tehran and in other cities. Certainly, the system of the Islamic Republic does not intend to force people to be religious. Nevertheless, the Islamic Republic has a duty with regard to those who are breaking religious norms, and we should not fail in doing our duty. The officials, the public, and those who enjoin good and forbid evil should fulfil their duty in this regard. We hope, God willing, that this great investment of religion and spirituality in the country will always be kept in this nation, since it is a source of honor, pride, and prosperity in matters of religion and the world.

O Lord! By Muhammad and the Progeny of Muhammad, keep our youth, our people, and our women and men steadfast on the straight path of the truth.

“In the Name of God, the Compassionate, the Merciful

Say, ‘He is Allah, the One. Allah is the All-embracing. He neither begat, nor was begotten, nor has He any equal’” (Quran 112:4).

Second Sermon:

In the Name of God, the Compassionate, the Merciful

All praise is due to God, Lord of all the worlds. We praise Him, seek His help, ask for His forgiveness, and turn to Him. And we send blessings and peace upon His beloved and chosen one, the master of the prophets and messengers, Abul Qasim al-Mustafa, Muhammad, and upon his untainted, pure, chosen Progeny, particularly the Commander of the Faithful, Ali ibn Abi Talib, and Hasan and Hussain, the leaders of the youth of paradise, and Ali ibn al-Hussain, the master of the worshipers, and Muhammad ibn Ali al-Baqir, the first and last in knowledge, and Ja'far ibn Muhammad al-Sadiq, and Musa ibn Ja'far al-Kazim, and Ali ibn Musa al-Reza, and Muhammad ibn Ali al-Jawad, and Ali ibn Muhammad al-Hadi, and Hasan ibn Ali al-Zaki al-Askari, and Al-Hujjat al-Qa'im al-Mahdi, may God’s blessings and peace be upon them and their mother, the truthful, pure, immaculate, purified one, and may God unite us with them.

Once again, I congratulate all of you dear people on this auspicious occasion, the occasion of Eid al-Fitr.

What I believe is important to emphasize in this sermon is that this year during the month of Ramadan the bloodshed in Gaza has upset Muslims throughout the world. May God curse the usurping Zionist regime! Not only did they not stop their massacre of women, children, and defenseless people during this blessed month, but they even escalated the killing. Western governments have always helped and supported the usurping regime throughout these years. They have supported it in international assemblies. They have provided it with all kinds of assistance. It was their duty to stop and prevent them [the Zionist regime] in this important matter, in this tragedy, in this calamity. But they didn’t stop them. The Western governments didn’t do their duty. Some verbally uttered some words in support of the [Palestinian] people, but in action not only did they not stop it [the Zionist regime], but many of them even helped it, in particular the arrogant, oppressive US and British governments.

During this year's events, Western countries openly showed the evil nature of Western civilization. We used to keep saying this. The critics of Western civilization have repeated many times that their civilization is based on evil. They said it was built on separation from and antagonism toward spirituality and spiritual virtues and values. No good can be expected from it. Everyone was saying that. However, in the events of the past six months with regard to the issue of Gaza and Palestine, the Western governments have exposed their evil essence to the entire world. They have shown the true nature of their civilization. They kill children in the arms of their mothers. They kill patients in hospitals. They are unable to overpower the Resistance and the men of the Resistance [forces], so they resort to attacking families, children, civilians, and elderly men instead. They have killed over 30,000 innocent civilians in the past six months. Where are those who deafen the world with their loud cries about human rights? Where are they? Why are they not seeing this? Are these people not human beings? Don’t they have rights? That was about them.

But the malicious regime itself, which is all malice, evil, and error, added another mistake to its own errors by launching an attack on the Iranian consulate in Syria. The consulate and embassy offices in any country where they exist are regarded as the soil of the country to which the embassy belongs. Attacking our consulate is like attacking our soil. This is what is common around the world. The malicious [Zionist] regime has made a wrong move in this case. It should be punished, and it will be punished.

We are, of course, mourning the loss of our martyrs — Martyr Zahedi, Martyr Rahimi, and their comrades. I have already mentioned that these men were yearning for martyrdom. They didn’t lose anything. How fortunate they are! These are people who spent their entire life pursuing martyrdom. God gave them this reward for their jihad. How fortunate they are! We are mourning this loss, but they attained prosperity. They were able to achieve their goal — both them and the Martyrs for Security in Baluchestan Province. These dear young people who guard the country's borders have put their lives in danger. The nation is mourning for this loss. May Almighty God grant the Iranian nation strength, reward, patience, and success, and help them to achieve their great national and collective goals.

I insist on unity. Dear people, dear young people, all of you who are active in politics, social activities, and the media, know that success lies in unity. Success lies in the unity of the Iranian nation.

Having political and non-political differences of opinion is not a problem, but conflicts, confrontations, destroying unity, and creating divisions and artificial dichotomies are detrimental to the country, your religion, your world, and your strength.

O Lord! By Muhammad and his Progeny, bestow the best blessings upon this nation. Grant victory to this nation over its enemies. O Lord! Don’t allow the enemies of our nation to rejoice.  O Lord! Make the pure souls of our great Imam [Khomeini] and our beloved martyrs pleased and content with this nation and with what we do. Make the sacred heart of the Imam of the Time pleased with us.

“In the Name of God, the Compassionate, the Merciful.

By Time! Indeed, man is in loss, except those who have faith and do righteous deeds, and enjoin one another to [follow] the truth, and enjoin one another to patience” (Quran 103:1-3).

May God’s greetings, mercy, and blessings be upon you.
