Now, about God’s mercy in being Rahim [Most-Merciful]. Rahim defines a special mercy for a specific group of beings, namely the believers and God’s righteous servants. When we say "Al-Rahim [The Merciful],” we are actually referring to a special kind of God’s mercy, and that mercy is reserved for the believers. What is that mercy? It is God’s special guidance, forgiveness, reward for good deeds, and satisfaction which are specific to the believers. Even though the domain of this mercy is limited and is for a few, it is permanent. It is not limited to this world. It is continuous. It starts from this world and it continues through purgatory, until the Day of Judgement, and in Heaven.
