In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
"Surely we are Allah's, and to Him we shall surely return."
The demise of the devout and dedicated Islamic jurisprudent the late Ayatollah Hajji Mirza Ali Meshkini made me feel great regret and sadness.
This senior clergyman was a prominent personality who, during his prolific and brilliant lifetime, was the source of many blessings for the Islamic seminaries and the faithful people of Iran and set an example in terms of moral behavior and noble deeds to his students and devotees.
Under the former tyrannical regime, he was in the vanguard of the Islamic movement, and under the present Islamic Republic system he was among those who genuinely strive in the way of Allah.
He was a paragon of devotion and virtue and piety. Indeed, his behavior and his deeds were more indicative of faith and piety and seeking truth and advocating righteousness than his pleasant and impressive words.
His high status under the Islamic Republic system and his presiding over the Experts Assembly ever since its establishment, which indicated the great respect and high regard in which he was held by the elites and senior ulama and eminent clergymen in the country, was never able to undermine his humbleness or his ascetic life or his piety even to the smallest extent.
He was characterized by knowledge and practice, jihad and asceticism as well as discernment and treading the right path without any deviation. The demise of this devout scholar and honorable clergyman is indeed regarded as a great loss.
I pray to Almighty Allah to raise his status in the hereafter and bestow His remission and bountiful mercy on his immaculate soul.
I also express my condolence to the Iranian nation and the Islamic seminaries and the eminent clergymen and the senior ulama. In particular, I condole with the esteemed family and honorable progeny and all the students and devotees of the deceased.
Greetings be upon him and Allah's mercy and blessings
Sayyid Ali Khamenei
