Strong Public Turnout in Qods Rallies, Heavy Blow to Zionist Regime: Leader

Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei here on Wednesday stressed that a strong public turnout at the Friday rallies to mark the International Qods Day would inflict a heavy blow onto the "angry and resentful image" of the Zionist regime of Israel.

Ayatollah Khamenei, speaking in a meeting with President Mohammad Khatami and his cabinet, regretted that the atrocities of the Zionist regime against the Palestinians have been intensified and lashed out at the U.S. for supporting that regime.

"These days, even those who as opposed to the Iranian nation do not believe in destroying the Zionist regime are expressing hatred toward the cruel behavior of this regime against the Palestinians and toward U.S. officials," he said.

"They are calling out this feeling of hatred in the visits of U.S. officials to different countries."

He stressed that the Islamic Revolution is the manifestation of God's help, adding that the Iranian nation as well as the officials will exercise determination in treading the path of God.

Ayatollah Khamenei said the progress of Iran's in various enterprises showed that there is a high human and material potential in the Islamic Republic.

"The Islamic establishment pursues economic welfare together with `social justice and the growth of ethical values'," he said.

"Therefore, we never advocate the mere economic growth that would result in widening a gap between the social strata of the country. Rather, we advocate a society in which all people are living an acceptable life."

Ayatollah Khamenei said the main duty of the state officials and institutions is to serve people, adding that the officials must endeavor their utmost to that end.

To serve the people best, he added, the officials must supervise different management apparatus of the country and make sure that the decision-making in the country is just and fair.

The leader of the Islamic Revolution described the firm religious belief of the Iranian nation as the basic principles of the establishment.

He voiced pleasure over the satisfactory progress of the country in various areas, stressing that struggles of Iranian nation toward prosperity could be further expedited by preventing the infidel elements from infiltrating into the country's institutions.

Ayatollah Khamenei also called on all officials to promote solidarity and to completely implement the policies of the system in all areas of foreign policy, domestic policy, economy and culture.

Elsewhere in his remarks, the leader of the Islamic Revolution highlighted the remarks by Imam Ali (AS) to advise rulers of Islamic societies to employ modesty and amiable behavior toward people, and urged the officials to consider the Imam's teachings in running the affairs of the country.

Ayatollah Khamenei said that Imam Ali (AS), in his Nahj-al-Balaghah which he called the book of knowledge and action - places stress on paying a just attention to all people and highlights the fact that God, Almighty, is closely watching the performance of the officials to that effect.

"These suggestions and warnings must be completely heeded by the officials of the Islamic establishment," he said.

Before the remarks of Ayatollah Khamenei, President Mohammad Khatami briefed the leader on the performance of his government over the past year by stressing that Iran has had the highest increase of the domestic gross product (GDP) among regional states.

Khatami said the plan of "Outlooks of Iran's Development in the Next 20 Years" portrayed a promising future for the Islamic Republic, and vowed that his government would struggle to materialize the plan that has been initiated by Ayatollah Khamenei.
