Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei said here Thursday that rendering services to the people is the philosophy and main goal of those who take on responsibilities in the Islamic system.
Addressing a group of high-ranking officials of the Imam Khomeini Relief Committee (IKRC), the Leader said all officials should dedicate their lives to serving the people.
Speaking at the beginning of Charity Week and the 25th anniversary of the establishment of the IKRC by the late Imam Khomeini, the Leader said the IKRC is a part of the legacy of the late Imam, adding that in the early days of the revolution when everyone was engaged in political and revolutionary affairs, the late Imam founded this charity organization in order to institutionalize the importance of officials and people rendering services to the needy.
The Leader referred to poverty as a grave misfortune for society, adding that eradicating the social gap and providing for the general welfare of the people are some of the important duties of officials.
"Along with the nonstop efforts to materialize this lofty goal, there should be coordinated efforts to provide the daily necessities to underprivileged people, which is the responsibility of the Imam Khomeini Relief Committee," Ayatollah Khamenei said.
The Leader added that the trustworthiness, honesty, and openness of IKRC officials have boosted public confidence, adding that the committee should make use of its valuable experiences and scientific methods in its efforts to assist underprivileged people.
"Poverty prevents underprivileged youths' talents from flourishing," the Leader said.
He stated that due to the efforts made thus far, underprivileged people now participate in the area of development, adding that if better facilities were provided, the talents of underprivileged people would flourish even more.
Referring to the generous assistance the people and government have provided to the IKRC, Ayatollah Khamenei instructed the committee to devise a very precise and comprehensive plan to assist underprivileged people through making use of the help of the government and private citizens.
"Although this year has been named the Year of the Movement of Rendering Services to People, this policy should be seriously pursued every year," the Leader said in conclusion.
