The Leader of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Ayatollah Sayyid Ali Khamenei, in a meeting with the Majlis deputies on Saturday, October 9, said that the seventh Majlis should make every effort and make use of every opportunity to solve the people's problems.
In a meeting with members of the Majlis Presiding Board and the chairmen of parliamentary committees, he stated that it is very important to adopt a multifaceted and comprehensive approach toward current issues, particularly economic and cultural affairs. Ayatollah Khamenei further said that the three branches of government should continue their cooperation in the best possible manner and urged the Majlis to oversee the proper implementation of ratified laws.
The Leader also stressed the need to disseminate information on the measures taken by the Majlis and warned the parliament not to raise unrealistically high expectations in society. He said that while adopting a capitalistic approach toward privatization in the case of Article 44 of the Constitution is not acceptable, placing all responsibilities on the shoulders of the government is also not recommended. "Rather, privatization should be implemented under the supervision of the government and in accordance with Article 43 of the Constitution," he added.
Ayatollah Khamenei expressed satisfaction with the efforts of the seventh Majlis to realize the goals of the Islamic Revolution and the measures taken to counteract the campaign aiming to portray the Islamic system as inefficient. The Leader also warned that any mistake or misstep resulting in the people's disappointment would be detrimental to the system.
Prior to the Leader's speech, Majlis Speaker Gholam-Ali Haddad Adel underlined the importance of unity, cooperation, solidarity, responsibility, and faith on the part of the lawmakers of the seventh Majlis. In a report presented on the performance of the seventh Majlis, he noted that the parliamentarians are paying careful attention to the problems besetting the public such as inflation and high prices. Haddad Adel said that regular meetings are being held between the Majlis Presiding Board and Majlis committee chairmen.
