About 30 years ago, while I was doing research on issues of the Indian subcontinent, I realized that among independence seeking groups in India--consisting of Muslims, Hindus, and Sikhs--who fought against the British, the British were more strict on Muslims in particular! The British could get along with Hindus and Sikhs; however, they were intolerant towards Muslims! Thus, the British firstly repressed the Muslims among other groups. In that time, a British Lord had said: “When we look back at our experiences, we feel like Islam is our essential enemy!” The British had come to this conclusion at that time and reacted based on this assumption!
