At the beginning of his Dars-e kharej lecture, on Sunday February 5, 2017, after elaborating on a narration of morality, the Leader of the Islamic Revolution touched on the issue of driving luxury cars. He stated that use of luxurious and expensive cars is forbidden (haram) for the clergy and clergy students. Ayatollah Khamenei said he had received a letter wherein he was informed that some of the clergy, ones who attended his lecture, commute in very expensive cars.
His Eminence stated, “Squander is haram for everyone: anyone, no matter how rich they are, if they have average incomes or if they are poor, it is haram for them to be extravagant. These luxurious cars are haram for use.”
Ayatollah Khamenei pointed out that there exist some security and protection concern in using expensive cars; however, he asserted, “Be mindful! Practicing piety, asceticism, abstinence and restraint from chasing after materialistic luster and superficial attraction, in this world, are our main duties.”
