Researchers in the Field of Spinal Impairments Meet the Leader

A group of researchers in the field of spinal impairments met the Leader of the Islamic Republic of Iran Ayatollah Sayyid Ali Khamenei on Sunday, August 13.

Speaking at the meeting, which was also attended by the Iranian Health Minister Kamran Baqeri-Lankarani, the Leader expressed his appreciation for the great scientific achievements in the treatment of spinal impairments resulting from successful research in this area.

Ayatollah Khamenei stated that any measure helping the country to get over the stagnation and retardation that had been imposed on it for many years under the former regime is a great endeavor and among the most valuable measures benefiting from divine remuneration.

Further in his statements, the Leader of the Islamic Republic described as 'very significant' the research and theorizing underlying these scientific achievements.

"In addition to the research work based on the current scientific theories of the world, our country is also in need of making further investment in the field of basic sciences and theorizing. In fact, one of the main features of the research in the field of spinal impairments is the theorizing on the part of the Iranian scientists," the Leader pointed out.

At the meeting, Dr. Saberi, the project administrator and the director of research into the treatment of spinal impairments, and also Dr. Firouzi, a female member of the research team and a professor of biochemistry and biophysics at Tehran University, presented a report on the various phases of the project's implementation.

In this research project, Schwann cells which are among the cells of the nervous system, having been cultured and prepared, are used in the treatment of spinal impairments.
