The Grand Leader of the Islamic Republic of Iran Ayatollah Sayyid Ali Khamenei, on March 24, 2005, issued a message of condolence on the demise of Professor Sayyid Jalaleddin Ashtiyani. In his message, the Leader condoled with academics, especially the students of late Professor Ashtiyani, and expressed regret over his loss. The text of the message is as follows:...

In the Name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful

I express my condolences over the demise of honorable philosopher and scholar Professor Sayyid Jalaleddin Ashtiyani to those pursuing and studying rational sciences at universities and theological schools, especially to the instructors and students of philosophy and mysticism and in particular to a large number of students who benefited from the knowledge and precious works of this great scholar.

Professor Ashtiyani, who was among the students of the late Imam Khomeini and Allameh Tabatabayee, was himself a prominent instructor of philosophy and mysticism. The loss of this personality is a cause of regret.

I pray to Almighty Allah to bestow remission and bountiful mercy on the blessed soul of the deceased.

Sayyid Ali Khamenei
