The Grand Leader of the Islamic Republic of Iran Ayatollah Sayyid Ali Khamenei in a decree issued on April 6, 2005, appointed Hojjatoleslam-val-Muslemin Sayyid Ahmad Alamolhoda the new Friday prayer leader of the holy city of Mashhad. The text of the decree is as follows:...

In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful

Honorable Hojjatoleslam Hajj Sayyid Ahmad Alamolhoda

With tribute to the former Friday prayer leader of the holy city of Mashhad, the late Hojjatoleslam Ebadi, and recognition of his services and prayer for divine grace and favor on his blessed soul, I hereby appoint you the new Friday prayer leader of this city.

Mashhad, the city of martyrdom, with its faithful, dedicated and revolutionary residents and age-old and venerated theological schools as well as its dynamic and intellectual academic community and millions of enthusiastic and devoted pilgrims and, above all, the holy shrine and magnificent mausoleum of Imam Ali Ibn Mousa ar-Reza (peace and greetings be upon him), which attracts the hearts of believers worldwide, is a unique and exceptional city.

Besides, you are also a descendant of one of the most respected and knowledgeable families of this holy city and you are endowed with remarkable knowledge and erudition and characterized by striving and perseverance in cultural, religious and educational fields. Thus, you truly deserve the position to which you have been appointed.

Now there exists a wide area of scientific, religious, social and political activities in front of you. I hope, enjoying divine assistance and guidance and the favor and auspices of His Holiness Baqiyatollah (may our souls be sacrificed for his sake), you will be able to promote faith, awareness and spirituality through your sincere guidelines.

Greetings be upon you and Allah's mercy and blessings

Sayyid Ali Khamenei
