Ayatollah Khamenei, the Leader of the Islamic Revolution, met Monday morning with Muhammad Buhari, the President of Nigeria. Eshaq Jahangiri, the First Vice President of Iran, was also present in the meeting.
Speaking at the meeting, His Eminence described the cooperation between Islamic countries in defending the identity of Islam and Muslims as a fundamental necessity, further reiterating: “Those international coalitions that claim to be fighting against terrorists are not trustworthy in any way because these destructive forces – particularly America – are the ones that stand behind the scenes of creating and supporting terrorists such as DAESH.”
The destructive forces – particularly America – are the ones that stand behind the scenes of creating and supporting terrorists such as DAESH.
The Leader of the Islamic Revolution stated that “the outright enemies of Islam” and “the enemies that show enmity in the name of Islam” are the two blades of the same pair of scissors. He added: “In the face of such dangerous enemies, Islamic countries should safeguard their own identity and interests by increasing their cooperation.”
Ayatollah Khamenei mentioned that pinning one’s hopes on the west’s and America’s support and assistance in fighting against terrorist such as DAESH and Boko Haram is a wrong course of action, saying: “According to precise information that we have, the Americans and some reactionary governments in the region are directly helping DAESH in Iraq and they are playing a destructive role.”
Dismissing the claim that the relations between Islamic countries will block the way for relations with other countries, His Eminence said: “The Islamic Republic has extensive relations with all countries except for America and the Zionist regime. However, we believe that Islamic countries should have closer relations to one another.”
We believe that Islamic countries should have closer relations to one another.
Expressing joy at the election of a practicing Muslim such as Mr. Buhari as the President of the outstanding and important nation of Nigeria, the Leader of the Islamic Revolution reiterated that the capacities of the two countries for cooperation with each other are many, stressing: “These capacities should be identified and exchanged.”
Muhammad Buhari also stated that his country has a longstanding and strong bond with the Islamic Republic of Iran, saying: “Iran is an advanced and large country that has many capacities for further relations and cooperation.”
He thanked Iran for the invitation to the third GECF Summit and added: “Today and in my meeting with the Leader of the Revolution, I learned many lessons and I am thankful for this meeting and these words of advice.”
