Leader's Message on Bloody and Grievous Incident in Kazamain

The Leader of the Islamic Republic of Iran Ayatollah Sayyid Ali Khamenei on August 31, 2005, issued a message of condolence following the bloody and grievous incident in the Iraqi city of Kazamain which left hundreds of innocent Iraqi men, women and children killed or injured. In his message, the Leader also called on the Iraqi people to preserve their unity and solidarity and thwart the enemies in their divisive plots. The text of the Leader's message is as follows:...

In the Name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful

"Surely we are Allah's, and to Him we shall surely return."

Today, hundreds of our dearest faithful brothers and sisters, including the young and the elderly and men, women and children, who were mourning in massive gatherings in the holy city of Kazamain and Baghdad on the martyrdom anniversary of His Holiness Imam Mousa-ibn-Ja'far al-Kazem (peace and greetings be upon him) lost their lives in a bloody incident and left us all bereaved and full of grief and deep sorrow.

The Iraqi people, who have not forgotten yet the bitter memory of previous bomb blasts in the cities of Karbala and Najaf masterminded by enemy hirelings, have now become a target of the deadly attack of mercenary terrorists in the holy city of Kazamain.

Indeed, the occupiers of Iraq, who are imposing their sinister presence on the Iraqi nation on the pretext of maintaining security in that country, are mainly responsible for such disastrous events, and they should be held accountable for such incidents.

With a mournful heart, I express my condolence over this tragedy to His Holiness Imam of the Age - may my soul be sacrificed for his sake, the great Iraqi nation, the esteemed senior Ulema and theological schools as well as the popular Iraqi government.

I humbly pray to Almighty Allah to confer total triumph on the Iraqi nation, associate the souls of the victims of this bitter incident with their master Imam Mousa-ibn-Ja'far al-Kazem (peace and greetings be upon him), bestow immediate recovery on the injured and grant the bereaved patience, fortitude and great remuneration.

I would like to ask the vigilant and devoted Iraqi people to preserve their unity and solidarity in the face of all the hostilities and thwart the enemies in their plots that are aimed at fomenting division and discord in the Iraqi nation.

May Almighty Allah relieve all the Iraqis and the entire Islamic Ummah from the evil of arrogant powers, who are devoid of benevolence and equity.

Sayyid Ali Khamenei
