Economic issues, budget plans discussed in President’s meeting with Imam Khamenei

During the weekly meeting on Monday afternoon between the President and the Leader of the Islamic Revolution, several important topics were addressed, including an assessment of the country's economic issues, potential solutions, and the budget bill for the upcoming year.

Following his meeting with Imam Khamenei on Oct. 14, 2024, President Masoud Pezeshkian stated, “The majority of the topics discussed today were focused on the country's economic issues and strategies for overcoming them.”

“The topic that is a priority for the government and was emphasized in this meeting is the issue of expanding relations with neighboring countries, including in the areas of transit routes, gas networks, rail networks, and increasing bilateral trade,” he noted.

The President underscored that expanding cooperation with China and other countries interested in strategic collaboration with the Islamic Republic of Iran is a key focus of the government.

Mr. Pezeshkian noted that the administration has developed effective programs to expand relations with neighboring countries and beyond, highlighting that the Leader has stressed the importance of promptly implementing and executing these programs.

Mr. Pezeshkian emphasized that the implementation of these agreements would significantly alleviate the pressure of the sanctions on the populace.

The President emphasized that Iran's collaborative efforts extend well beyond just a few neighboring countries and a handful of others. He stated that Iran is engaged in dialogue with various countries worldwide, guided by three core principles: dignity, wisdom, and expediency.

“I believe that if the agreements and treaties are enacted, we will make substantial progress,” he added.

The President also discussed the budget bill for the upcoming year, outlining its key priorities. He stated, “The government's top priority in next year's budget is to increase the purchasing power of the people by lowering taxes for low-income groups.”

He further noted that increasing support for the population, particularly for low-income individuals in areas such as health, education, and essential goods, are also among the administration's main goals for the forthcoming budget.

Mr. Pezeshkian emphasized the government's commitment to submitting next year's budget to Parliament promptly, explaining that the cabinet is convening multiple meetings daily to ensure thorough review of the budget bill.
