In a meeting this afternoon with Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu the Secretary General of the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC), the Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Khamenei described active presence in the Muslim world as one of the important duties of the organization and reiterated that the OIC can play an important role in creating unity among Islamic countries.
His Eminence also referred to the enemies' attempts to use ethnic, religious, and political issues to create discord among Muslims and added that the Organization of the Islamic Conference should take measures to foil such plots.
Elsewhere, Ayatollah Khamenei referred to the Gaza tragedy and said that the Islamic countries were expected to adopt a strong unified stance towards Gaza. He further said that during the 22-day war, some nations played a prominent role, but some governments failed to adopt an appropriate stance.
The Leader of the Islamic Revolution added: "It is now expected that the Islamic countries will adopt a unified and logical stance on the reconstruction of Gaza."
His Eminence also described as necessary the development of appropriate plans by the Organization of the Islamic Conference to increase cooperation among Islamic countries in economic and cultural arenas. He further stressed that as a member of the organization, the Islamic Republic is fully prepared to cooperate in this regard.
In this meeting, Mr. Ihsanoglu presented a report on the activities of the organization in different fields and also referred to the organization's efforts to create unity among Muslim countries and oppose anti-Islamic plans in the west.
He said that in a letter sent recently to all member countries, the organization has asked all Islamic countries to cooperate in pursuing the legal prosecution of the heads of the Zionist regime for the war crimes they have committed in Palestine.
The meeting was also attended by the Iranian Vice President Mr. Davoudi.
